Keef
Plus i'd imagine Sonisphere is their UK exclusive for this year.
PDX James
I posted this topic out of more hope than anything else. I must say thou, one of the best Metallica gigs I ever saw was a couple of years ago with the Rolling Stones in San Francisco. They were added as special guests after the event sold out so hardly any hard core Metallica fans were there. They went down very well, blew the stones away and made many new friends with I expect the exception of Mr Jagger and co. I also think its a long shot that they would play this year, but they would fit in and they would do one of the best shows Glastonbury has ever seen. And for what ever anyone says about Metallica they are still one of the biggest bands in the world and should show Glastonbury why at some stage in their career. For god sake they have sold more records than all the other potentially touted Friday night headliners COMBINED!!!! Hopefully, as Metallica have a free weekend and are in Europe Mr Eavis could send them some comp tickets and they'll see what a great festival Glasto is. And Mr Eavis will realize what a great band Metallica are. And then maybe next year ?
benisright
But they played the O2 earlier this week. I'm told it was very good. Anyway, I'd love to see them play the Pyramid on the Friday night but I'm not going to hold my breath.
MJMilz14
metallica are not good live, would hate for them to headline cus they are so overrated
russycarps
do they play much off that black album, the one with unforgiven on? thats the only album I know
alemart
There speaks someone who has never seen Metallica live in his life
pehaw
IMHO Metallica have been utter shite since the dirge that was ...And Justice For All. Kill Em All, Ride The Lightning and Puppets are great but after that they disappeared up their own arses big time.

pehaw
pehaw, IMHO live and on record they are better than they've ever been and perfect for the Friday night slot, unless you want to get some sleep
TheBoyInTheBubble
I aint seen em live since '86 so you may well be right! On record its just too over produced for my liking.
mudmonkey
I would say if they're not playing, it won't be because of safety concerns. The tickets are already sold so its not like a load of metallers will turn up just for Metallica, and of course now we have the safety barrier so there is much less risk of a repeat of the Roskilde tragedy. Also bear in mind Emily's quote of "someone we never dreamed would play" - well that fits Metallica more than most. It's not really my sort of thing, but I saw Slayer at Werchter last year and that was funny as f**k so would be well up for some more metal! MikeyB37
For anybody who read my pre-Glastonbury posts last year, it was that nan who used to give me my pre-festival warnings.

podge52
saw Metallica last Thursday in Manchester and they were mind blowing, only thing wrong is they aren't loud enough. Thats down to the ealth n safety police . That aside it wont happen anyway. We'll have to do with blurghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh who in my humble opinion were shite back in the day and will be shite at glasto and in the foreseeable future. wigstonmania
i hate metallica with a passion all that faux machismo is laughable
alframsey
I find the suggested 'replacements', as it were, for Neil Young very very very uninspiring!!! The White Stripes? I know some people would love to see them but i dont see them doing the business live tbh.Metallica, id love it but i dont think it will ever happen, EVER!!! Radiohead, i wouldnt mind if they did it, but they look likely to be a R/L exclusive and it would be an easy option given they headlined not so long ago, same with Coldplay. So, this seems a bit of a conundrum for the Eavis', doesn't it?
Portland Boy
I believe Death Magnetic was by far the best album last year, 5th best selling album in the world last year so I am not alone. I would love to see them there on Friday night but I think the only way they will be there if they want to see Coldplay.
