russycarps
I bought a day ticket for V festival in chelmsford in order to see Elbow play a festival this summer, given that they arent doing glasto. I feel dirty. what confessions would YOU like to make? Edited March 6, 2009 by russycarps

marcwilson87
This is bad, however I plan to do it one day, I need to know how shite it is. I feel bad slagging it off constantly and saying to anyone who complains at any festival, "Oh, go to V!" considering I haven't been. I ain't contributing to Oasis and Killers pockets this year tho! Matt 100
I dont get it, is V classed as such a bad thing. Ive never been but have heard its a lot smaller than glasto & its all about the hard sale to line Bransons pocket. But surely its still a good fest as it sells out every year & it seems like many people return year after year.

russycarps
I am going to just treat it like a gig, rather than a festival. I belive the headliner that day is oasis <vomits> but supposedly mgmt are on last too so I will catch them and swerve the helmets from manchester. I have been lead to believe you are not allowed to take your own alcohol into the "arena" (whatever that is) but I swear to you all my fellow glastogoers I WILL take my own booze in OR DIE TRYING! tazzyb
Well I have bought tickets for V this year but I go nearly every year as well as going to Glastonbury. Its a completely different animal. I do not really class it as a festival its a gig with camping. As its a shorter festival I can carry all the food I need for the weekend and over the years have prefected how to smuggle drink into the arena. I just make sure I camp near the arena that way not too far to stock up on drinks and go back to the tent during the day to get something to eat. The only thing I buy is a programme. So they can try and get money out of me at every turn but their not getting it. Ticket, parking and programme thats it. It is shocking mind how little effort they put in but there are usually a far few bands I want to see so thats why I go

glastofun
V even looks bad on TV. I don't think I've even considered going. I would consider Leeds/Reading though. Is that just as bad?

Matt 100
its bollox. friends of mine went last year and there was a four hour que for beer tokens (you cant take any booze in, you then pay for tokens which you then take to the bar) so they spent £120 on pimms as it was the only 'cash' bar there. no fires in the camping, the fire towers also doube as police spy towers (in 07 i witnessed people hauled out of their tent because some arsehole had seen them skinning up - i dont care what your stand on drugs are, thats bollox!!!) no sense of community, surrounded by burberry and lonsdale. its utter bollox!! dont go, ever
russycarps
With you on that. I go most years too. It's pretty close to where I live and a quite a few of us go, so it's always fun. But they don't get shit from me money-wise. There's no way I'm queuing for an hour to get beer tokens, only to queue for ANOTHER hour to exchange them for some overpriced, warm gnat's piss. It's pretty easy to get your own booze in there, with a bit of practice. And the sound is always pretty good (last year aside, actually, hope they sort that out). pie_and_a_pint
My confession is that, despite it being March, I have already starting packing for Glastonbury... I've never considered going to V, but I can totally understand why the OP has taken the plunge and got a day ticket - I'm going to miss good old Elbow at Glasto this year... russycarps
That's where you went wrong Do that and you'll be fine. I'm certainly not here to defend V, but i've always managed to have a good time there, despite the idiot security, poor facilities, strict arena rules, beer token queues... blah blah blah. I've never once bought a Virgin branded drink there, or eaten a dogburger. Can't say i've ever paid attention to the advertising on the big screens between bands either. Have to say i had my best festival laughs/moments of 2008 at V last year, mostly campsite related (this was at Weston Park). It's all about who you go with surely? Having said all that, there's not a chance in hell of me going back this year
Tugger2k
I think I will sling a bottle of rum in my undercrackers and hope for the best. These beer tokens (whatever they are) fill me with terror.

MikeyB37
your only going for the day so you should be fine. in 06 you had to judge how many you would need for the day when you 1st went to the token bar because........... if you over bought, they wouldnt accept them on the sunday. and you had to buy more!!!! total and utter rip off
