Festival ticket scam - Five News request

Just logged onto the forum - this is the funniest forum conversation I've ever had in the line of work ! Very good digging guys! Although, must admit I could probably do with updating my music likes on Facebook ! Sadly, it doesn't sound like any of you can help me with my story ! However, when the report is done I will be adding it to the Five News website. I'll let you all know when that happens.

 You think? What about old women who are conned out of all they own?

Doesn't matter how stupid the victim, if they are being conned out of hard earned money by someone too dishonest and lazy to work then I side with them.

i believe i may be able to help with this story, i often get ripped off for festival tickets... twice this year already! once by a certain somerset farmer who may have falsely led me to believe neil young would be playing his festival  and then by a certain cumbrian festival who once they had my money announced the charlatans were to headline  perhaps we could talk about it over dinner sometime?:D

Hi. I'm a producer at Five News. I am currently putting together a report on the ticket scam websites that have sprung up this year. As you may know, thousands of people were conned last year - and I hope that media reports like mine should stop so many people from being caught out this summer.

I would liketo talk to anyone who was a victim of last year's con websites (or if you already know that you've been a victim this year!).

You can either email me at emma.slifkin@bskyb.com or call me on 020 7800 2742 . Please make sure you include a contact number for me to reach you on.

Thanks !

Emma

I do understand where you are coming from with that one - but just so you know - in actual fact tv news programmes rarely pay for interviews - the proper fees come from newspaper interviews. For broadcast news, especially stories like this one, fees are pretty rare. The fear is, if you offer to pay, you'll end up with people faking their way through interviews for some easy cash!

AT the risk of straying back to the point - this is no bad think and I hope time will also be given to the fantastic efforts of the Glastonbury festival to stamp out touting and 2nd hand ticket sales. If other ticket agencies took simple efforts like requiring photo id (lets be honest most people buy tickets more than once and have accounts with ticket agencies so their photo could be saved in this account) then these sites and touting would be wiped out almost overnight.

Emma, I'm going to be honest with you. Even though you have said that, I am still going to cynically tut every time anybody is on the news getting interviewed over anything going "I wonder how much they received for that. Corrupt b*****ds!!!". Unless it's a fella who's wife has just been killed. Then I'll be going "the police will be watching this one, he did it, you can tell"*.

*If you ever want to see someone obviously trying to hide their guilt, there was a guy in Southport who chopped up his missus but said that she'd ran away. I can't remember his name, but he was interviewed on the local news and it was the greatest piece of evidence the police could wish for. He couldn't even look at the camera.

The best thing about the ticket con is that they never sell the tickets cheap, they are nearly always twice the face value. So even more fool the conned.

Whilst I sympathise with parents buying presents for their kids, or the non net savvy people, I have no sympathy for people that get ripped off with festival tickets then after realising its a con, join forums like this one, asking for advise what to do. If they came here in the first place they would have gotten all the ticket buying information they would need in the first place....
