I'd guess it's just random, I'm sure the leaks will come. Could be FR are struggling to get bands tied down though?

Saying that, I think most of the high slots are fairly predictable now. The Kooks, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Maximo Park are safe bets to take high slots on the Friday and Saturday, Kaisers are one of the second headliners, the first announcement doesn't normally stretch very far beyond that.

Who's gonna play below Radiohead is a different ball game though... not a clue at all.

Someone said 36 Crazyfists self-confirmed which is pretty cool though .

maybe FR will shock us by pulling something amazing out of the bag to save the day.perhaps exclusive performances for the strokes, weezer, blink 182 and even the reformed stone temple pilots.

fair enough then, could be worse. could be franz ferdinand.

Point is why have three generic indy headliners when reading/leeds has prided itself on being the mixed bag festival for years.

plus do we NEED another festival with the killers/razorlight/snowpatrol/kings of leon headlining? No. we don't.

they may be 'good' bands to some people but there's no variation anywhere this year so leeds.reading really need to pull it out of the bag

i never said killers etc. were playing i said do we NEED another festival where they were headlining since they are doing a lot of the festivals this year.

if they can get kings of leon and radiohead then thats all fine and dandy.

arctic monkeys? meh. personal opinion there. they just dont have a headline feel to me.

im not saying throw on an all metal cast - but as i DID say reading/leeds have always been the more diverse festival as far as the bands go.

radiohead/KOL/Arctic monkeys despite not being the 'same genre' arent exactly a diverse offering either.

im just hoping they arent going to throw up a similar line up to the likes of oxegen/isle of wight/ t in the park/ V fest

Not too much of an outlandish request is it?

Because Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys and Kings of Leon arent generic. They are three different genres for a start - unfortunately music is more diverse than metal and indie - and because KoL, AM and Radiohead arent playing festivals anywhere else in England.

Why do reading/leeds need to pull it out the bag? Its not like they have a hope in hell of attracting that many metalheads considering there are two massive alternatives this year. Which is far more than metal, hard rock deserves.

Where are killers on the bill? Where are snow patrol? Where are razorlight? Pretty sure none of them are playing and instead they've got the pioneers of the current indie scene, the most popular rock band in Kings of Leon and the biggest band in the world in Radiohead.

Working off of this basis http://www.last.fm/charts/artist it is suggested that out of bands that would play reading/leeds, radiohead are the biggest.

Working off number 1 albums; they have had 4 since 2000 (which i give to be a pretty big indicator of biggest bands around today on chart success; for example, Bruce Springsteen, Coldplay, U2 (i think), Stereophonics are the only others with 4 number 1 albums).

Working from acclaimedmusic.net radiohead are ranked 11th. 2nd to only Bruce Springsteen if you were juding artists that were still making music successfully today.

So its not a controversial claim to call them the biggest band in the world.
