fcum
Joss Stone a couple of years ago in the Leftfield. Just walking past, decides to have alook who's on. She was amazing. Now if you'd have said to me prior to that lets go and watch Joss Stone..... Peej in 95 in that pink catsuit. Never got it before, loved everything she's done ever since. Monkismo
1997 - Mansun. Hated them before but blew me away on the day 1999 - Manic Street Preachers - surprised me how utterly shite they were! 2002 - Where to start? Beverley Knight, The Vines and Hundred Reasons. All acts I hadn't given the time of day too and the albums I bought straight after Glasto, I still listen to now. Knight, in particular, was brilliant although I was off my face on special truffles that we bought in the Green Fields! 2007 - Kasabian. I liked them already but I wasn't expecting them to be that good live! 2008 - Franz Ferdinand and Dizzee Rascal. Only went watching them cos we had time to kill before Pete Doherty so thought we'd get up to the Park early and get a decent spot while having easy access to a bar. I don't like Franz much (bar Take Me out) but they were excellent and Dizzee Rascal got my pasty ass moving harder than ever. Not a fan of his records but it was utterly brilliant! candy_cane_boy
Leonard Cohen - made me completely forget about the Euro 2008 final which was taking place at the same time! (that's a massive compliment by the way)
Chimps in Balaclavas
Last year I'd say .. Seasick Steve & Jay Z. I've also seen Brian Wilson's Glasto slot on u-tube and thought he was fantastic, I wouldn't mind seeing him there this year.
cerv
From last year I'd say Candi Staton. I didn't think she was going to be bad but was just surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Jay-Z too but a lot of people were going on about how good he is live with all that fuss beforehand that it wasn't as big a surprise I guess
Abbathehorse
At the other end of the spectrum Biggles Wartime Band. Fell across them by accident a few years ago and have always made a point of hunting them down at Glasto ever since.

Monkismo
I thought they didn't play in the end. My memory of Mansun in 1997 is them trying several times but failing (and being miserable bastards about it) due to moisture-related instrument problems? Oh well. Have to say, I have been pleasantly surprised by David Gray, Bluetones and Moby at different times. Can't stand any of them, can't listen to any of their recorded music without falling asleep or booting the stereo, but live they all played blinders. David Gray's version of Whiskey in the Jar was great, Bluetones doing the theme to Minder was a classic sing-a-long, and Moby was just generally good (did he play Radiohead's Creep)? Oh, and Fun Lovin' Criminals in 1999 too, didn't think much of them before but very good live, changed my opinion completely.
verrymerry
Michael Eavis surprised me when I saw him out in the car parks (gate C) last year and I nearly fell down the hill in shock... Twas embarassing. Bands though? Patrick Wolf 2007, it was amazing!
Chickenburger
Dizee rascal last year was suprisingly good after the unpleasent suprise of the franz ferdinand secret gig shenanigans.

incident
Future Native in 2004 or 2005. Though to be honest the recorded music doesn't really live up to the memory - it was probably more a beautiful case of the right sound at the right time. Baby On A Stick
Rodrigo Y Gabriela - Jazz World 2007 Gogol Bordello - Pyramid 2007 I had heard of neither of these before people on here recommended them and I am so glad I checked them out. They were both awesome, especially Rodrigo Y Gabriella - my god that woman can play guitar.

glastofun
Amy Winehouse '07. Pyramid Stage. It was my first Glastonbury, I had yet to get the 'Glastonbury bug' and I was feeling very disappointed that it rained. I wasn't really a fan either. Suddenly the crowd was massive, everyone was dancing and getting wrecked, and the rain and mud became part of the fun. Great moment. alibear
I really enjoyed The Cribs in '07. Not the best musicians in the world but they've got bundles of energy and clearly love what they're doing, which transfers to the crowd. Made me ensure I always catch them at festivals or London gigs from then on...
Katster
To me one of the joys of Glasto is falling across bands that you've never previously seen - or possibly never even heard of. For example, how many people who were blown away by Seasick Steve or Manu Chao knew them before? (I appreciate there will be know-it-alls who say they've known them for ages and have all their CDs) but I just wonder who you've been surprised by over the years? sdaveak47
Has to be Spearhead 2004 Jazz World stage, went to see them on a whim because my big sis said they were good live. I dont know if it was rediscovering all i'd forgotton about how great glasto can be (first for 5 years), but it was amazing, If they play you have to see them, i'm pretty sure i bumped into Emily at the end when he came into the crowd but can't be sure as i was totally spannered (another reason why it might have seemed so great i guess)
