Secret gigs

After reading the Klaxons post it made me wonder how people find out about secret gigs - can a seasoned Glasto-goer inform me? I've only been once (in 2007) and only remember hearing about Madness in Lost Vagueness, which didn't seem so secret, seeing the world and his wife knew about it. I took the Q Daily every morning but I don't remember it being too revelatory. Is it just a case of being in the right place at the right time?

Sorry if this has been asked before - being slightly lazy by not searching the forum and need to go back to pretending to work...

Ask the guys on the sounddesks.

at times, the Q daily will report it, at times will be luck. Can't remember about franz last year but there was rumours of it onsite, The group I was with wanted to see dizzie rascal so we went up there and franz played at the time he was scheduled, with dizzie after.

After shlomo, when last shadow puppers played, I got it out of the guy on the sound desk. Wanted to find out who it was before running off to watch the end of imagined village.

for comedy tent best to check the board in the mornings if you're too worried...we turned up in the afternoon a couple of years ago to find we'd missed a secret bill bailey set in the afternoon (it wasn't in the programme but was on the board outside)

Well last year up at The Park, just before Edwyn Collins, there was an announcement over the tannoy that the 'special guests' there that night were going to be Franz Ferdinand which is how I found out about that.

I've since read on here that they only confirmed to play the day bere which is why it wasn't printed up in anything (I've checked the Q Daily from the day and it wasn't mentioned in there) and there were also a bunch of people giving out flyers in the area advertising it.

I remember on the Reading line-up last year on the introducing stage there were two 'special guest slots'...bit more obvious! :D

Managed to catch secret acoustic sets from Biffy Clyro and We Are Scientists! :D

I did. It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen and I was in the front row for the 2nd half of their set. It's the point where everybody sat down and turned around that got me going. People were furious. Awesome.

Me and my freinds got a personal secret gig performed for us by a couple of chaps outside the acoustic stage on Thursday. Can't recal there names, they were up there rehearsing for their set the next day and we called them over as it was my friends birthday. So sometimes you just have to make these things happen for yourselves
