Lets face it, most 15-18 year old scenesters won't know anything about radiohead.

They'll want to see someone they can tell all their mates about to impress them, rather than see one of the biggest, best and most established bands in the world out of curiosoty.

Anyone who thinks KOL are bigger globally is an idiot, but i think at reading/leeds they will probably draw similar crowds due to the reasons above.

IMO Radiohead r more suited to Glasto and Frankly i don't want them at R/L

There so up themselves, who do they think they are dictating to the organisers who should play under them!

If it was my fest the only reason I wud let them play main stage (if at all) would be becos that would be the only place to fit their egos!!!

I'm kind of sick of this concept of 'indie/scene twats' - just because someone isn't an avid fan of metal, does that automatically demote them as a person? Are they less capable of appreciating music as a whole? What if - shock, horror - someone has a variety of tastes that encompasses the kind of demonised indie music that has been commercially successful this decade, is that so bad?

Obviously, those that adore The Wombats and One Night Only are a different entity, but personally I'd take Arctic Monkeys over The Offspring any day - they speak to me more, and though I can't deny how catchy The Offspring are and their strong musicianship, I personally think they're above-average at best. Music is surely meant to be subjective, and so how is it such a lamentable and damning thing to like one variant of it?

The Offspring are not big enough to headline Reading in the same way that Judas Priest aren't - they have both sold millions upon millions of records, and satisfy a metal audience to no end, but without contemporary relevance they aren't a viable prospect to head up a major festival. As someone pointed out, either in this thread or another, this is a business and people nowadays would rather see the major British breakthrough act of the past five years, or a band who have hit international stardom four albums in and are subsequently ubiquitous, rather than an American band who peaked 10 years ago and have seen a large decline in popularity since. So yeah, shoot them.
