could they genuinly have reached those audiences and had that effect without the breakthrough that the roses/scream broke open. or would they simply be obscure little dance albums listend to by people in fields out of the back of car rigs tho

Dont think there was much crossover in the grass roots back in the day. If anything the Prodigy brought millions more people out of the hardcore/breaks gutter into the heavy rock fraternity.

BTW

Myleene Klass - you would wouldnt you?

I think they would have reached those audiences yes. Especially The Prodigy as they already had a big fanbase before Screamadelica came out. You could even ask whether Screamadelica would have reached such an audience if The Prodigy hadn't made such in-roads to the mainstream with their rave music and their pivotal role in dance music that Primal Scream tapped into. Nothing exists in a vacuum and everything has influences and predecessors, so while Stone Roses and Screamdelica may have paved the way to a certain extent, so those bands had the way paved for them too, but all 4 albums I think changed what came after them, they all had an undeniable impact on music.

This is honestly the best piece of musical news i've ever recieved. Them reforming that is. If they were to play Glasto this year it would be too much. Hope it comes off. Fits in with what Eavis said around NME award time about "Something just coming in today, someone we never thought we'd see at Glasto" Any info Neil?

I'm utterly underwhelmed by this news. When I was growing up, our sixth form was split into two - the baggy Manchesters and the rockers. I was a rocker and as such was too busy drinking thunderbird, listening to Jimi and having a good time to be bothered by their irksome supposed groovy sounds.

Seriously, this has got to be far from true.

The Roses are quality but if they got back together they would just be another band that reformed.

Ian wouldnt do it anyway, hes made a name for himself solo and has an album out in august time...

Brown has more sense than to reform.
