It's certainly not beyond the realms of possibility that a tribute band might headline the other stage. I'm sure I saw something that resembled a really bad pub covers band on the Friday night in 2004 on the Pyramid stage

In all seriousness though, if the Easy Star All Stars are playing I'd hope they play lots off Dub Side of the Moon and Radiodread. Radiodread for sure I prefer to OK Computer!

Just to reiterate my point (because i'm not sure you get it). I personally have no problem at all with the Australian Pink Floyd show. I myself have paid to see them before and enjoyed the gig. They're great at what they do.

What I do have a problem with is your suggestion that they could headline the Other Stage, which I find absolutely ludicrous and laughable.

I'm pretty excited about the prospect of Sgt Peppers Lonely Heart Dub Band (there's a sampler on their myspace), unfortunately i don't think there'll be enough time to play all three albums back to back ...

Must say that I really don't go much on so-called tribute bands in general but there are just a few exceptions and the Aussies are most certainly one of them. They're bl**dy brilliant and I have to admit to getting my Floyd fix from them on an annual basis for many years ! In fact this years date is coming up real soon as it's almost always one of my pre-Glasto gigs :O:huh: However, no matter how good I think it would be, I'm not so sure that headlining the Pyramid/Other stage would be quite 'right' somehow although they would without doubt put on a superb show. They've played Glasto before anyway (a mega wet/muddy year, maybe 1997/8, Acoustic Stage I think) so no reason why a repeat couldn't happen at some point in time esp as they're even better now than they were 10+ years ago.

As others have already said, there's absolutely no chance of the real thing ever happening now  so in my book, having the Aussies on stage would not be significantly different to having Waters & Co or Gilmour & Co doing what would be to all intents and purposes their Floyd tribute set !

I don't understand all this dislike of tribute acts. They are novelty acts. Like watching Spinal Tap or Rolf Harris. You don't go along expecting to see amazing art. You go along because they will play well-known songs and put on a solid live show. I would much rather watch a tribute band than a band that can't play in-tune or have no decent songs.

I haven't watch APFS but by the sounds of it they have a good laser show, which would add to the spectacle.

Obviously a tribute act shouldn't headline the Other Stage, but I don't think headlining John Peel stage/Jazzworld/Acoustic would be totally unreasonable.

You people should stop being so uptight and worrying about 'art'. They are there to play your favourite songs, and play them well.

I think it must be said that tribute bands do have a place in the current music scene, providing they are tributing non current bands and especially if they real fans and trying to be true to the original sound, which most are. The only TB I have seen is Aus PF and I really enjoyed it, went back again the next year and the next.

Given the choice of Tom Jones /Shirly Bassey/... or APF then the choice is clear. I saw a chap doing Jimmy Hendrix tribute stuff on the telly some time ago and he really sent a tingle down my spine, but have never got to see him live.

It does not seem right mixing tribute and real stuff on the same stage so my idea is (wait for the onslaught....) to have a dedicated tribute stage at G. Just imagine youngsters having the oppotunity to hear Hendrix stuff played live and well. Another idea, this is a really good one, this same stage could have different themes each of the 3 nights, eg Fri Rap (ugh), Sat Metal, Sun Tribute as some examples. The more I think about this the better it sounds, surely Glasto is all about the mix.

ME, are you reading this.

I went to sziget festival in hungary last year and they have a tribute band tent. saw a couple of gigs too (rolling stones and queen I think) and I really enjoyed it. Just a bit of drunken fun.

Also, at 11pm every night they had a wet tshirt competition in there :(

As far as tribute bands the Australian Pink Floyd show are probably one of the best on the planet. They are note for note perfect when i saw them 4 years ago and are a must see for any Floyd fans.

I personally would be disapointed if they were given a headliner slot on the other stage but if they were to play the festival and there were no clashes then i would definately watch them again.

I'm not really into tribute bands but these guys have obviously worked very hard to really capture the Pink Floyd sound. As musicians they are truely brilliant and if they are on the line up somewhere then it would be truely deserved on their part.

If Mark Ronson can get a decent slot on the other stage in 2008 , then there is definately room for The Australian Pink Floyd Show!

Just noticed the Australian Pink Floyd have confirmed for Isle Of Wight.

A very good tribute band... any chance they could play Glasto as a Other Stage headliner...?

OK fair enough, Bjork had a green laser beam a few years ago - but the Aus Floyd lightshow would be amazing to see at Glasto this year.

Are you kidding!!! Concert Halls across the world stage what are essentially tribute bands every week and they have their own radio stations. Classic FM etc. Musicians covering the masterpieces of Puccini, Motzart, Bach etc are not writing their own music they are with skill and passion covering some of the finest music written in history. So Kiri singing Ave Maria or Maria Callas singing in Tosca is not art? Isnot worthy of acclaim? Now because musicians are covering more modern works of art as tribute bands to honour the writers and musicians of the past they are not worthy of such credits. I think there is room for all music. If there is an audience there is a reason to stage it. Anyone who can cover Gilmours playing accurately should be heard. The Floyd Effect are excellent not the same budget as The Aussies but the sound is amazing.

It's probably the closest thing we'll get to pink floyd I think.

They're really good from what I've seen.

As it happens, I'm having music theory tuition from one of their saxophonists atm. He plays a bit of bass and percussion for them aswell.

I don't know whether he'll know, But I'll ask.
