Glasto Virgin....what not to miss!?

Hi guys

Hitting Glasto for the first time this year and I know, I know, you've got to discover the best bits yourself and make your own memories but what shouldn't be missed and any tips? I'm thinking things like;

Best views across the site (sunrise, sunset and that)

Tents, villages, areas etc not to miss

Best campsite for newbies (Kidney Mead?)

Any other personal bits and bobs that make it so unique?

I've been to V a few times (yep, its Wembley Arena outdoors for the weekend!) and Benicassim (sooo good) but this year its finally happening, the proper festival...and I can't bloody wait, this sunshine getting me right in the mood! :P

All your tips and ideas much appreciated, ta!

Worst bit? errrm, none of it :P

Best thing I can suggest is not to try and run between stages like you can at V - you'll miss more than you see, its just too big to be able to do that

Arrive on Wednesday... drink some cider at the cider bus... go to the stone circle.... make sure you spend time wandering about... try and see more of the festival than the main stages, the green fields, the circus and theatre fields, the healing fields ;)

1) stone circle on the first night and last night. YOU HAVE TO STAY TILL ITS DAYLIGHT

2) greenfields

3) pyramid stage?!

4) park field - awesome

you know what? some of the best times i have had at glasto have just been wandering around, meeting new people (including eavis!! though i was too young to understand who he was, i got what mum meant when she said "this man made the big place with lots of people and brightly coloured everything")

Don't forget to take your camera so you have something personal to look back on when it's all over :(

Enjoy your first Glasto - it's the biggest and best there is imo. :D

Spend some time at one of the stages, rather than running between them (as an earlier poster said) - I really like the Jazz Stage, and also the Park for that.

And definitely find the Lost Vagueness area - or Shrangri-la or whatever they call it now - at night. It's such a cool feeling to go there after the last band is on stage, and then stagger back to your tent five hours later thinking of all your friends who are back at home tucked up in bed having gone there after watching the last band on BBC3.

My first year last year and I think I got it just about spot on! Arrive Wednesday as early as possible, make the most of the 5 days, even if you're tired try to find a boost and enjoy the nights - spend a few hours in Dance Village, a few hours in Shangri La / Trash City, and at least one sun-rise at the Stone Circle. Enjoy food, check the threads here or just try what you find - try to avoid the dodgy burger places near the main stages. Speak to people you don't know, wander about the Green Fields, look for theatre, circus, spoken word, poetry, political stuff, spend as much time as possible at the R1 Introducing Stage up at Park, picnic on the grass whilst it's there!, have an afternoon snooze to a chill-out band, explore smaller bars like Bimble Inn, try Silent Disco, try to avoid gigs you know will be overhyped (last year for example Ting Tings.. couldn't get near JP tent) but spend a bit of time on Spotify with Robith's playlist so you know some new bands to try, ask everyone you meet what their tip is, buy a Glasto virgin t-shirt..

That's it for now.. damn I can't wait..

Another thing to remember is make sure you get the free glasto paper in the morning as it tells you about secret gigs on and surprise guests like last year on the park stage The Last Shadow Puppets played and Jack White came on and jammed with them, a proper glasto moment.

Thanks ppl some great advice...can't wait to be honest and the tips are getting me that little bit more excited!

One quick Q as well....once the stages have all finished and it's kind of after hours are there still bars and other places to buy beers etc? Don't want to be running empty wandering about the place and heading to the stonce circle one of the villages!?

The tea ladies! They always make me laugh when i see them coming round with the little trolley with a boiler on it. Keep an eye out for them.

And the various other street theatre that wanders around, a horse gave me a sugar cube once
