i have a north face pair of overtrousers they are good quality but ive only ever wore them in snow. if i was to need to wear them in summer id imagine id only wear shorts underneath though doubt they have enough ventilation even though the fabric is breathable.

also another thing to look out for is the length of the zips if there is on the bottom of the trousers. longer zips make it easier to take them off while wearing shoes.

Shorts are the answer I wear combat-style and I've not had cold legs as yet, even at night...

I have this jacket and would definitely recommend it.

While we are at it, I'm looking for a good pair of waterproof trousers that are breathable. Any trousers I've had in the past (admittedly just cheap ones) left my legs sweating badly! Any suggestions folks?

Took a trip to GoOutdoors today and bought myself a pair of Berghaus Deluge waterproof trousers.

Off topic but what a shop! Went in there with the sole purpose of buying these trousers and also came away with a new 65L +10L rucksack, couple of long sleeve t-shirts and a cool headlamp. Spent £100 and had to drag myself away before i spent anymore!

Though they also had problems putting through my transaction and it turns out it's gone through 3 times! . Not good with me being a poor student and all that. Need to go back and sort it tomorrow but they were very good and gave me a 10% discount on the stuff as well as a gift voucher for my patience with all the problems. Not ideal but very happy with the service.

Joe Bananas at festivals do the old farmers style wax jackets dirt cheep (less than £10). They are old a bit battered but functional (but looks very presentable with a hose down and re-waxing). I rejuvenated mine with a nikwax for cotton spray and it continues to do sterling service.
