a soundsystem of old....?

I'm hearing whispers that there's a new stage - only a smallish one - that's having a number of acts on this year .... and it seems that the acts being booked for it are being asked to keep their gobs shut about it. :(

The stage is apparently something to do with a soundsystem of old that used to do stuff in the free party/illegal scenes.

The only thing coming immediately to my mind is Spiral Tribe, but I guess it could be any number of things. Any other ideas?

Isn't Steve Hillage confirmed for Glastonbury?

So, maybe System 7 could do some stuff, linked to this? They've got connections with this scene. Just a thought?

anyway, this has all made me v ery happy

Megadog were legal yeah, but they also did some free party stuff.

DIY maybe then? nottingham based outfit. Very good.

I was thinking Megadog. Their early appearances at Glasto were as a "guerilla" sound system. Hope it's them; they have been doing stuff in Holland recently with Teabag and Evolution, but still no Michael Dog (they fell out big time). Another possibility is Desert Storm (though again these were mostly legal I think).

I know it won't be this, but anyone remember The Super Furry Animals' Techno Tank? How bizarre and great was that?

Yeah, I was thinking Sugar Lump as well. That was some party in 92. I also think I recall them having a marquee in the Jazz Field in 94 that went on all night, anyone elsed remember that? The other name that came to mind was DIY. I know they were mostly Nottingham based but I went to one of their parties somewhere outside of Bristol on NYE 92.

Another thought would be maybe a updating of Wango Rileys, in it's original guise as non-licensed venue that did all the free festivals, rather then the purple tent stage that does the rounds nowadays?

Or a return of the Experimental Sound Field, curated by Underworld, to celebrate the, er, 17th anniversary (I may be clutching a straws with that one...)

Whichever, it all sounds a very ace prospect indeed.

can someone PLEASE tell me what you's are on about,

theres going to be an unannounced impromptu stage somewhere at glasto this year?

or is it going to be a very visible properly set up stage that you are aware is there?

with just djs playing or bands? like the illegal raves from the 90s?

no ideas - there's going to be a stage with a name from the days of old when lots of festival type things were done illegally. I presume that this stage will be an official part of the fest, but I don't know for sure.

That's all that's known, other than that it will defo include some (if not all) live bands.

Anybody remember the off-site traveller cafe in one of the camper van areas in the late 80's/early 90's

with those 2 coaches with the tarpauline over the top with ear crunching tunes pumping out 24 hours a day

It was more like an industrial revolution site rather than a cafe. Saying that though, great place to have a dance on your way in or out of the camper van field
