Neil Young: accoustic Vs rockier

OK, so I know there are already a few Neil Young threads, and this has been hinted at before, but I thought it deserved it's on topic.

Do you think Neil Young will perform more accoustic tracks or more rockier tracks? If you're a fan, don't you think that the accoustic tracks are what makes him such a great artist? To me, the rockier tracks are bog standard MOR stadium dad rock. Maybe I'm missing something, I suspect I am considering how much I love his more accoustic side. Could someone recommend some of his pivital rockier work? The title of 'Godfather of grunge' has to come from somewhere?!

i think more important than the decision of accoustic or rock is Neil's mood on the day. I have seen him loads and back in 2001 I saw him twice in a week and while he was absolutely brilliant at Roskilde (awesome set, awesome banter etc) he was just miserable at Fleadh in Finsbury Park (came on, plugged in played, murdered his guitar and left). Because he is such a great musician his gigs are always (well mostly) awesome, but when he is up for it there are very few like him.

But i think the athmosphere at Glastonbury should be infectious enough for him to play an absolute blinder...acoustic or at 11,

I think a mainly rock set with some acoustic thrown in mid set.

Saying that though - I am completely 50 - 50 when it comes to neil and acoustic or rock.

I love the grinding sounds of Neil and Crazy Horse and think the grunge feel to Mirrorball was superb.

But... I also love the acoustic numbers.

I could never choose between them and feel as though I like 2 different artists - acoustic Neil and rock Neil.

Buy one get one free!

Firstly, what a great thread!

I saw him for the 1st time at manchester apollo last year, and he did 50/50. He was also in the perfect mood, so it was one of the best gigs ive ever been to.

If i was pushed in to a choice i would say acoustic for me.

At glasto i also reckon it will be 70% rock. If he plays the crowd pleasing tracks and the crowd are up for it (which i that they will be) it will be momentous....maybe even better than Bruuuuce......oooo did i just say that!

Bit of both for me Hard start slow in the middle then Finish hard to send everyone away high

Mansion on the hill, Cinnemon Girl etc for the rock

Hopefully Unknown legend for the chilled bit (and as much Harvest as he wants)

oh I wish I was going!!! but hopefullt BBC give it huge airtime

I love both the rock and acoustic songs, and expect he will do both at Glasto. Cinnamon girl would be absolutely awesome, as would Like a hurricane and without a doubt if he plays it Keep on rockin in the free world would be one of the biggest singalongs of the festival. But I hope he plays a few quieter ones like Don't let it bring you down and few off Harvest, Harvest moon and Comes a time.

Oh and Farmer John would go down a real treat!

The melancholy acoustic stuff gets me everytime (After the Goldrush, Borrowed Tune, Old Man, The Needle and the Damaged Done), so I hope he doesn't lose himself in his electric guitar for the whole gig. But with a headline set (a couple of hours?) then he has the time to change the pace and tone to suit all. I'd guess he'd probably start with a few rockers to get the crown going (Hey Hey My My would be a good one), but he has such an epic back catelogue that second guessing him is nigh on impossible.

I just hope he plays Cortez The Killer off Zuma. If he does I'll have to pack up and leave cos it won't get better than that.
