robith
For me, Rap sounds like nursury rhymes with an added beat and some suspect language. The defenders of Rap often talk about meaningful lyrics (if you can decipher them), ok that may be true in a few cases, but that still does not excuse the nursury rhyme "sing song" style of delivery. What about meaningful lyrics with a good tune as well as a good beat. Oh yes, and why do rappers like to call themselves funny names, can any one explain, it all seems very childish. Have I gone too far. Looking forward to Neil Young, now there are some good lyrics "When the aimless blade of science, slashed the pearly gates"
RichieSpenno
I'd love Kanye to play so long as he didn't clash with Blur.

freehugs!
If you really want to get a good idea of rap then dig a little deeper than the stuff in the mainstream, most of it is pretty crap (as it is with modern day rock). Try Saul Williams, Hilltop Hoods and Public Enemy for example. If you don't want to, then don't generalise a whole genre with ill-informed opinions that could probably be applied to many of your favourate bands. BlackHole2006
This thread is funny. It seems like people on here are making downright childish generalisations that I used to make when I was like 13. People are into different music, so what, Just because I like Roots Manuva, Jurassic 5 and Kanye West doesn't automatically make me a "Chav". I like all sorts of different genres, not just bland heavy metal bands that all sound the same to each other, or crappy "Emo" bands pretending to be big hard punksters. I mean you may like different styles of genres aswell, but from past experience, most people that say "All rap is crap" are too stubborn or too afraid to like anything that is "uncool". As said before, all you have to do is just look deeper into the hip hop and rap scene to find good bands. Heck, Roots Manuvas lyrics are far better than any viking metal band that I've ever heared, who just sing about "Satan" or "Death". The reason why most people think it's cool to like that sort of shit is because it's contraversial and to be controversial is to be cool, like Johnny Rotten and all his punk playing friends (BTW, Sex Pistols are an awesome band, no arguments there). And there are mirriages of bands who try to copy that controversial image by writing about satan and neo nazi-ism in their songs, which is usually written in the form of death metal or heavy metal because that's what the young uns are listening too and that's how you get the money. I'd like to think the lead singer of Slipknot as someone who goes home to mummy every evening after gigs and just acts all hard on stage wearing his "Big scary mask!!111one!" and worships maggots every evening if I'm not so mistaken. Anyway, to be honest with you I think modern day music is a disater amoungst all proportions and I wish I was brought up in an exiting time for music like the 70's or 80's where music was fresh and new. Luckily, there are some bands, who have saved my loyalty to the music industry, but they're not sucsesfull and no one has heared of them, therefore it automatically makes them "uncool". Which saddens me, because it really shows the stubbornes amoungst teenagers like me and the fear of trying out something new. Cheers, BlackHole2006
Kyelo
I listen to what I like. I have 60gb of music with everything from Pavarotti to Pink Floyd, Static X to Kanye West, Boys Noize to Kubb, The Waterboys to Kings of Leon, Akala to Alkaline Trio, The Clash to Biffy Clyro, Rex the Dog to POD. I like/have stuff from nearly all genres and if you judge me because I listen to something you do not like well f*ck you! I'll be watching Kanye. Zacko
Really wish a bit more news on Kanye playing would arise, would make the lineup even stronger than it's looking to be. Edited March 23, 2009 by Zacko

airds
A lot of white people who like hip hop do so because they lack knowledge of their own history or herritage.

gregory
Kanye West to Headline Sunday night of Wireless 2009 ...His appearance at Wireless 2009 will be another huge highlight in the rapper’s calendar, so much so that he’s chosen the festival to be his only UK performance this year. featherboa
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that IOW said that Neil Young was exclusively headlining and that's been proved to be wrong! However I could have imagined the exclusively bit, but I am sure I saw it on here somewhere! I would love to see Kanye there so I am keeping my fingers crossed! pedmills
Agreed. 'Hard Road: Restrung' is one of my favourite albums. Plan B is also an amazingly good hip-hop artist. As for Kanye West, and taking opinions of his music aside, does nobody else feel that him headlining the Other Stage the year after Jay-Z headlined the Pyramid sounds unlikely? I think that 2010 would be more realistic.
freeak
The organisers might have said 'sorry you'll have to wait for next year' but I think if someone big like him wants to play then you let him.
