Motorway service stations

I'm looking at setting of at "stupid o'clock" in the early hours of Wednesday morning from the Leeds/Wakefield area with the intention of getting to site 9am/10am.

I was considering stopping at some stage to get some sleep for a couple of hours (probably Strensham service on the M5) - does anyone know if service stations get arsey with people sleeping in their cars in the car parks?

In addition, can anyone from the Leeds/Wakefield area give an indication of how long to allow to drive down to arrive on site 9am/10am (AA & Google route finders quote 4 hours but I was looking at adding 30/60 minutes to allow for the last push towards the car parks)?

I, and 5 others, spent last friday night in a services on the M1 near northampton ;)

jeez it was cold, and the drivers seat is comfy for driving, but it really is not comfortable for sleeping

we got about two hours sleep in all. so no, people kip in services car parks all the time.

2ndly, i've driven from leeds for the last 2 years, we set off around half 5 - sixish and were on site for about 1pm.

the queues for the car parks stretch almost all the way back to glastonbury town, you'll spend a lot of time sitting in slowly moving traffic along those tiny country roads, but you'll see the fence shining in the distance and it'll be getting ever closer ;)

To be honest, with the government trying to cut down on people driving whilst tired (Hence reducing accidents by peeps falling asleep at the wheel), It would be totally irresponsible for service stations to move people on for sleeping in their cars!

Just a though. ;)

If it was me I wouldn't bother grabbing a couple of hours kip on the way, I'd just grab the couple of extra hours before I left.

Or alternatively, try to stay up all night on the Monday and go to bed the Tuesday lunchtime, get a good 10/12 hours sleep and set off around 2am on the Wednesday morning. Wide awake for the drive and gettting pitched up, grab 40 winks Wednesday lunchtime and then after that you're good to go!

No not me !

I was going to have a year off tho, I struggle to cope with the come down. Last year in the tent near

the green fields I was watching the Sigur Ros film about 3.00 am. I was crying cos I wanted to go

and live in Greenland.

TBH - I am a complete f***g mess when I get back , I just cannot cope with normal life !

:P

I'm going to head down after work on Tuesday, found a Days Inn on the M5 for £37.50, it'll sleep 4 (at £10 each you cannot complain). Can leave there at about 6-7am after a decent kip and voila - Glasto!

Oh, it's at the delightfully named Michael Wood Services (not sure who or what he services?) about 40 miles from G.

Make sure you have nothing illegal on you if you do decide to stay over, or even stop for a few minutes, at any of the motorway service stations within a 50 mile radius of Glastonbury. Spending the weekend in police cells would be a miserable way to celebrate Glastonbury festival.

Oops, must've got my wires crossed. It was my first glasto last year and I was in a state when I had to leave. It felt like I was splitting up from the love of my life. It took some adjusting going back to work and stuff. I was absolutely smashed on the Sunday night/ Monday morning which didn't help my emotions any. The whole fest was a tug on the old emptions tbh. I can remember fighting back the tears when Crowded house were singing always take the weather with you cause I was so happy and all my brain chemicals were err . . . unevenly distributed. Thinking about it now though, the past year (almost) has flown by though and it wont be long until I'm back at that most wonderful of places.
