Browsing the official Glasto website and it mentions that campervans/caravans can only enter by the blue route, the A37,we usually come in through Street from the M5 on the A361,it looks well out of the way for us coming from the north of England, are they strict on this or could we come our usual way and still get in the caravan fields ok?

I think it only matters that you get onto the right side of the festival, so that you get get into the caravan/campervan fields on the east.

If it was me, I'd go your usual route along the A361, continue, then turn south onto the A37 following Blue Route signs. There's a turn right off the A37 a mile and a bit. It's only a couple of miles.

You could take some back-lanes, but towing, I wouldn't risk it really.

if you're coming from the north on M5 then you have a couple of options to get to Shepton and then straight onto Blue Route for the van fields.

firstly you could leave M5 at Almondsbury and join M4 going East...then come off M4 at the Bath junction and head south via Bath/Frome/Shepton on the A36....

or...you could stay on M5 until south of Bristol and come off at the Weston-super-Mare junction..a quick detour onto the A370 and then the A371 all the way to Wells and then Shepton.

Either of these would avoid hitting the traffic approaching from the east and then having to go all the way round the site to get to Blue route on West side.

:P

I have been in twice with a motorhome and come in from Shepton Mallet both times, as you go round the roundabout where the A361 joins the A37, the A361 was coned off and there was security/police there. They may have changed it now, but I think they used to block it off to avoid loads of festival traffic going through the village. The buses from the drop-off point use the road to get to the site and other festival traffic as well, but thats about it. I think in the fine guide it does tell people to use the blue route only.
