Hatful was my intro to The Smiths and got me into them big time, probably similar to the guy or gal who listed the Cure album, its all a bit personal at the end of the day and nothing to get your tits in a tangle about and over intellectualise

Also, with regards to the not real Beach Boys claim... That's just rubbish. Not every band has to literally be their name? Gong were not literally a big sheet of metal. Can were not literally a Can, the Rolling Stones weren't literally rolling pieces of rock, so what difference does it make if the Beach Boys couldn't surf? And Dennis Wilson could surf anyway. So I've proven that rubbish twice. Also, they were f**king great.

Perhaps...? It does depend what is meant by seminal... I love Rubber Soul, but personally I see it as ground work for the superior Revolver. Whether that makes Revolver less seminal as it's merely a progression, rather than a whole new approach to sound - who'll be the judge...? :D

However, I prefer Revolver, AND it has a far cooler picture on the cover, so the bottom line is that I'm right!

OK, this is a highly personal list from my still fairly limited knowledge of music (I'm not going to cheat and use Google) and I expect a few raised eyebrows so I'll try to justify each one!

The Beatles- Sgt. Pepper, Nuf said really

The Ramones- The Ramones, For me the original and best punk band

The Who- Tommy, Amazing album and as far as I know something that had never really been done before

Mother Love Bone- Apple, For me the first proper Grunge album from a band that would have been huge had Andrew Woods not died shortly before it was released. Plus the remaining members went on to form the 2 best grunge bands (and my favorites of all time) - Pearl Jam & Soundgarden

Oasis - Definately Maybe, OK it wasn't a new sound particulaly groundbreaking etc but for me this is the album that got me into music in the first place (I used to listen to East 17 before this came out!) and although I haven't liked them for years I still love this album and from a personal perspective it seemed to break the ground for the rest of the Brit Pop era of the mid/late 90's.

Beach Boys - Pet Sounds

The Beatles - Revolver

Surely there can be little argument about these two?

And a few from my own lifetime;

Wu-Tang Clan - Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)

Stone Roses

Primal Scream - Screamadelica

As for the near future, possibly Arcade Fire..? I was still holding out hope that my beloved Yeah Yeah Yeahs were heading towards producing something magical, but as fantastic as the new album is, it's certainly not what could be called genre-defining or ground-breaking.

In fact you could probably say

The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan - Bob Dylan

Bringing it all back Home - Bob Dylan

Highway 61 revisited - Bob Dylan

Blonde on Blonde - Bob Dylan

Blood on the Tracks - Bob Dylan
