Anyone been to Glastonbury and V Festival?

I've also done both. I'm not stalking you honestly!

I just wanted to add to this thread what a great job the V people have done of selling Glastonbury! Even those of us that are in both threads completely forgot to actually "describe" it in the other place (myself included).

Maybe it is easier to describe it when you are given something (V) to compere it with.

Anyway - no-one on this thread has yet mentioned Shangri-La or Trash City - alll night madness! Trash City - a Post Apocalyptic Mad Max Rave, and Shangri-La - an Alice in Wonderland array of tents and parties, from the best unheard of bands, to the coolest wedding disco (the greatest tunes of every genre right through time), to Shackney - a shack which aims to re-create the vibe of Hackney - I danced the night away to some great reggae/dancehall there! All of this in the hours that V is shut .....and thats just the "official" stuff.....and I haven't even mentioned the Park yet...

Oh - one thing I loved at V was the Indie disco - if you like this head up to The Park on Thursday night for something very similar but much later.

I've been to both and can categorically state that there is no comparison at all. Glastonbury has so much more to offer than V Festival. Start with the fact you are on site for 5 days (6 if you hang round all day Monday), move on to the fact that Glastonbury is many many times bigger and offers more variety that you could imagine then work up from there.

As for the whole "being about much more than the music" I have to say that Glastonbury really is more than just the music. Last year I was sat up at "Flagtopia" with wine in hand watching the Glastonbury world go by, I said to my girlfriend, I could go home now and be happy, that was the Thursday afternoon.

I really meant it too, it had been a wonderful two days, I had more of a laugh, spoken to more people, eaten better, drank more and smiled more in a day and a half (without there actually being any bands on the main stages) than I did at the last two V Festivals.

As for the music, outside the obvious pop acts, Glastonbury offers everything V does and more. There's a whole dance Village, there's dozens of stages offering everything from superstar rappers to Tony Benn, Seasick Steve acoustic to ShloMo and the vocal orchestra.

All of this is not so say that I don't enjoy V, I do. I have booked for this year even though I'm far from thrilled with the line-up announced so far - reason being I know it'll be a great laugh and I'll get to see loads of bands without having to train for the walk between stages for months in advance of the fest!

Seriously, go to Glastonbury, it'll change your life (perhaps not your life but certaily your view on what a festival is all about)

This year I am going to both and will be very unlikely to go to V again.

I know that I will greatly enjoy Glasto, the only disadvantage of it is that it lacks hard rock and metal (but then so does V).

If I had been able to get the time off work, I would have liked to have gone to both Glasto and Sonisphere.

I think I'll go to Sonisphere in 2010, I'm well overdue for a proper (hard) rock festival. If I have the cash I think I will go to one of the European ones like Rock Werchter (sp?) that have a Glasto style but without neglecting harder rock.

Has anyone been to any of the European festivals like above?
