I am 25 and I get IDed almost everytime I buy booze in a supermarket, and also frequently for bars and clubs. This is in start contrast to how is was when I was myself underage, and indeed when I was under 21.

Times have changed, stop moaning, take ID and get on with it. I always have ID with me nowadays, it's not that much hassle.

what i mean by over cautious staff is that not all staff have common sense or choose not to apply it, after all we train our staff to the max using very good training material and ive worked at 2 different places that have failed test purchases done by trading standards, 2 different extremes completely, 1 was a woman of 55 who sold a lottery ticket to some1 who was 13 and the other was a lad of 18 who sold alcohol to a 16 year old. i saw all of trading standards evidence and if both of my colleagues had applied T21 instead of being idle bastards there wouldnt have been an issue

so i understand the importance of T21 or even T25 but i dont look under 25 but people would just start askin for askins sake and i believe askin people for ID if they look under 30 is going a tad to far

Clearly Glasto-Worker has done the "by the book" answers.

Im going to give the real life situation answers, as someone who works on a bar full time.

But in reality. The chances of you getting done in are very slim. But this whole topic begs the question

If you are 18, how on earth can you afford to pay festival bar prices the whole weekend. Be normal and drink cans.

if your Claim is correct ' as someone who works on a bar full time '

What you appear to miss is that in a normal Pub the odds you will not have the authorities sitting in the back of your bar nor will there be a team of checkers stopping people as they leave the bar.

This has happened at every event I have worked at since the law was tightened as its a easy target.

None of the WBC Bar staff will bend the rules - full stop.

Maybe Glastonbury should do what Reading/Leeds are doing this year which is giving out 2 sets of wristbands, one set for the standard festival goer, and a different one for people who produce ID proving they are 18+ at the wristband exchange. So all weekend there is no need to produce ID, you just flash your wristband.

(I'm 17 and I'm just gonna bring my own drinks)

I'm in a sort of similar situation, except I'll be 18 the week after Glasto. I'm hoping being a few days away from 18 won't make much of a difference.

That said, when I go out at weekends - regularly, and to several different clubs and bars - I never get ID'd. Even my older friends get ID'd when I don't. I'll probably take a wee bit of my own though. I'm not intending to get smashed or anything, just a wee drink here or there for merriment :D

What you don't state is what system the bar or club was using so really unless they were using the Challenge 25 system it means nothing .

Sure many 16 and 17 years olds can pass for 18 but very few will pass the Challenge 25 system.

Its pointless asking the bar staff as they have to follow the law - think of it the other way around - would you do a favour for a Complete stranger when the Authorities are in the back and are doing double check's and if you get caught you will end up in court ?

Right or wrong the Government have set the 18 or over rule so complain to your MP.

Actually, if I figured I could get away with it, and if no one was looking, I probably would do them the favour. Provided they were 17 and looked like they're responsible enough - not 16 year olds intending to get smashed - then why not?

And the clubs I go to do the Challenge 25 thing - some of them have little badges on about it and they've got posters behind the bar - but they often tend to be so busy that it'd be a waste of their time to check.
