Reading Line Up

Having just seen the line-up for R&L Festival, I'm a bit envious of some of the line-up but up to now I'm not totally blown away.

I'm NOT slagging it off by any stretch but I was expecting more, especially after people mentioning names like Jane's Addiction etc.

Outside of the headliners I'd probably take Placebo and perhaps Vampire Weekend off the line-up. No doubt the coming weeks will see many many more names but at the moment, I'm afraid I'm now not blown away by eithe the V or the R&L line-ups. Both have got good, bad and ugly on there.

For clarity, I'm not slating it,or really comparing to V, just highlighting the fact that the announcement disappointed me given the weight of expectation, rumours etc

Its a good line up

I can't believe people are slagging it off

I think I'd watch nearly every single act that they've put up on main stage

and the NME stage has some great acts, in particular Im gutted about Gaslight Anthem, I really hoped they'd play V

aside from that, Ive pretty much seen everyone on the line up before, and Id only really want to see Radiohead badly from that lot, because I could always watch them

Placebo, Maximo Park, deftones & Bloc Party didn't wow me last time I saw them all live, but Id watch them all again

I'd be very happy if I had a ticket but alas I don't, oh well, hope Get Loaded has a good line up on the Sunday! To be honest I think right now Im happy with the fact im seeing Orbital, and I doubt radiohead will be that amazing at Reading, they were average I thought at V, easily the worst Ive ever seen them, so im not so gutted

Yea some of the people on the Reading forum are really angry and frustrated lol

I think they are crazy, there are some really good bands playing in my opinion!!

To be honest though, there are slightly more acts that i would like to see at V this year over Reading, mainly because I've seen a lot of the Reading bands already, so I'm very happy i choose V this year over Reading!

Cant wait for the next few announcements for V, hurry up and announce please!!

In fairness, its down to expectations. At V Festival, you expect some pop and main stream bands its all very commercial. So the line up R&L got would probably be an amazing lineup if it was for V Festival!

But the R&L goers want more edgy and alternative acts. I can see why they are so p!ssed!!

Reading line-up is poor imo and im not bias to any genre of music, im going V and dload and pretty much like any genre of music apart from jazz and stupidly crazy death metal.

I dont think any of the festivals are all that great, V is to similar to previous years, reading is the same and hasnt got a heavy rock day. Dload is actually pretty damn good i would of liked AC/DC to return to donnington and done the sunday. I probably would of liked blink 182 to of done the friday but its actually meant ive gave faith no more a chance and i like em, apart from thats its spot on.

Reading will struggle to have a heavy rock day again now its competing with sonisphere and dload, add to the fact that AC/DC, guns n roses, greenday and blink 182 havent done a british festival this year has meant weaker all around.

Glasto doesnt exactly jump out at me either, im gona try and get a ticket next year though i dont care about line-up, but i reckon it will be good.

V and reading had much better line-ups last year

Yea like said above, r&l will struggle these days to get the metal day due to the other fests, but thats what I enjoyed most about leeds the year i went..the fact that there was a day for all the heavy stuff and then ur indie and stuff other days.

There are some bands id really like to see at leeds this year such as AFI, arctics, ian brown and prodigy...but again as said above it isnt mind blowing.

The only festival line up that has wowed me this year is the isle of wight - they always seem to get amazing acts, but unfortunately i doubt ill be able to get to that one.

well leeds havent taken some of my hopefuls (yet) so fingers crossed eh! I really do need something to get me going at v this year as it really isnt happening for me at the moment

well having seen their lineup it does give me hope that we will see some decent announcements for V as loads of stuff wd have expected for L/R hasn't been announced so is hope <_<

Agree with Wookie IOW seem to be pulling out some pretty good names and quite a mix too, come on V sort it out!!!

I actually prefer them moving away from a metal day as that's not my thing. But besides the great headliners there isn't a whole lot of bands that really jump out. The only two ones that I was really hoping would be at V were Vampire Weekend and Gaslight Anthem <_<

After the awesomeness of Leeds 08 my mates & I all bought early bird tickets for this year. From the announcement last night we're all considering getting our tickets on EBay & trying Sonisphere.

As Bekimo said, I go to V every year with the missus & know it's gonna be indie/pop (maybe not as much pop as this year) with a couple of surprises thrown in, this years R&L is Indie bollocks from top to bottom, it's like the organisers thought hard about which bands have the most chav/piss throwing scumbag fanbase & got them all in one field. There's very little diversity in this announcement, the 2nd announcement (much like V) will have to be something pretty special.

Given the fanbase of the bands announced I predict there will be LOTS more trouble this year.

I'm going to both festivals and I have to say i'm much more excitied about the music at Leeds as opposed to the bands playing V! Though i'm looking forward to V as a social event to celebrate the end of exams cos a whole lot of us are going up for this years festival! I was chuffed with the line up especially the 3 headliners.. im not really bothered about bands such as fall out boy or placebo?! but as for acts like florence and the machine, friendly fires, glasvegas, the yeah yeah yeahs! well i couldnt be happier :D

I think Reading and Leeds have also played it safe this year, I think the Metallica/RATM fans who went last year will be gutted with this year's line up, very very safe and that is not what Reading and Leeds fans want, you expect V to play it safe.

As for Radiohead, I have loved listening to them in my kitchen for the last nearly 20 years but at a festival? no thanks.

Sonisphere looks very niche to me. Personally I think you'd struggle to consistently pull the crowds with this type of line-up and also I think it would be very difficult to keep booking enough different bands year after year to keep it fresh and interesting. R&L changed massivly over the last couple of decades, Monsters of Rock/Ozzfest/Download has too I think Sonisphere would have to as well.

If we are talking line up of the year thus for, for sheer variety I'd have to go for T in the Park. Pet shop Boys to Nine Inch Nails to Laurent Garnier to Jane's Addiction to Katy Perry (?).

I was joking about Perry............. :P

One odd thing about 'sphere is this, from the official site

On show days all acts will be on at alternate times so there is time to take in all of the storming lineup

I read that to say that you'll only have one band on at a time, seems strange??
