Family Field

Hello,

First time with the kids this year and would like to now how busy the family field gets on Wednesday? Travelling from Yorkshire, so maybe lunch time arrival, will there still be space?

Also, there will be four of us in total and was wondering what size tent would be acceptable / considerate?

Was thinking of a three room tent, one for storage and night time "bucket" ;)!!!

Really starting to look forward to Glasto now and can't wait to show the kids the outside circus area at night, blew my mind last year!! oh and of course there is the music!

Kids are hoping for White Lies to be announced <_<

Regards,

GH

Although Cockmill Meadow fills at a fair pace, it's a good size and so lunchtime Wednesday you'll have no problems even with a large tent.

Acceptable size? I think pretty much anything would be okay, unless you ended up with many more rooms than poeple! If there's four of you, and brought something that was say as big as three bedrooms and a communal room - the most I think you'd probably want - noone would bat an eyelid. Multi-room single structure tents are quite efficient for ground use.

Just stop short of bringing fencing... it does happen, and boy does that annoy

Obvously, the later you arrive the fuller it will be and the further back you will have to go. Watch that you dont camp under the pylons, they hiss, esp if it rains (which it wont of course). I always try to get in at 0800 on Weds and will camp right behind the Scuba cafe, but reckon even on Thurs you should be able to get in, but right at the top (flatter ground with tendency to flood a bit - which it wont of course). Make sure not too close to roads, bit noisy. Big tents seem to be the norm so no probs, and as previous poster said, no fences...took my kids first when 5/9, its excellent...much more fun than getting off yr face for 5 days. This yr will be a few sensible mates and me and my 13 yr old...It'll be his 4th in a row and he's a G addict now...

We arrived about lunchtime last year and there was still plenty of space at the top of cockmill meadow - it was under those pylons and they do make funny hissing/spitting noises (at times it sounded like rain on the tent, got very confusing) but it didn't really bother us. We'll be aiming for the same kind of spot this year.

Top of the hill seemed sensible to us - water always finds it's way downhill

Hi there, Me and my mates camped in the Family bit last year, not because we have kids mainly because the people we knew and were meeting down there have been going to Glasto for years and years and have this bit they build every year so we just met up with them and camped there. It was actually pretty ace camping in a bit so chilled and relaxed.

Anyway we didnt arrive till late the Wednesday night and there was still plenty space for us to camp (Cockmill Meadow) and that was about 12 of us so you should have no bother at all if your getting there Wednesday. As i said before its very chilled and relaxed so you and the family should have a cracking time!!!

This year me and my mates are going for the exact opposite approach ;) we`r gonna hopefully camp in the maddest, noisiest place in the site as we want to see the much darker side of the Glastonbury madness.

We always camp there at the request of our friends. Although none of us have kids with us. There is usually spaces up until midday thursday. but the earlier you get there the bigger spot you can grab. Be sure not to camp at the bottom cus if it rains this can get a bit muddy.

We normally go just underneath the pylons. In 2005 this was one of the driest spots. It has served us well.

Been camped under the wires a few times. If you don't mind the crackle, it's good for getting a late arrival spot in Cockmill, and in 2005/2007, was no probs for water logging/run off. There's still a slope up there but it's gentle, so in the extreme scenario (2005 Friday morning!) you don't get the mini-streams appearing up there!

But most people don't like the wires though ;)

The last 2 years we have camped under the wires, we like it there because they crackle louder just before it starts to rain, gives you time to get your stuff inside :P

We were near the fence last time and had a spotlight tower shining on our tent, which meant we never used our torches

.....it didn't bother us but some people wont like the constant noise and 24 hour lighting :D

Couldn't comment on the family field though did find camping hear the pylons aids navigation. In terms of tents there were some HUGE ones near us on Big Ground and no one seemed to have any issues with them at all, something like this

seemed to fit in just fine, plenty big but without an enormous footprint (some of those proper tunnel tents are hoooge!)
