The tent is the only thing that I struggle to find and that is only for the first few nights. Usually try and pinpoint a nearby landmark, last year it was a Welsh flag that was about 100 yards opposite out tent. Unfortunately someone had the same tent as ours and I walked into that about 5 times, much to the owner's annoyance.

don't know what i'm going to do this year as they have removed my way point. we always camp just up from the leftfield meeting point, with that pretty big star it was easy no matter what state you were in to find your way back. think i'm gonna have to resort to the good old bread crumbs trick this year....lol

I got the layout quite quickly by picking a few key landmarks (mainly cross roads).

Finding the way back to our tent is easy because we camp up near Worthy FM which has a mast lit up at night.

The main thing is meeting back up with friends after we've gone our separate ways, so we use triangulation. For example, on the hillside in front of the Pyramid Stage we walk in a straight line from the Oak Tree towards the right hand speaker stack and stop at a point where the First Aid tent is at a 90 degrees to the right.

In enclosed tents like The Acoustic we use a 'clock system'. Imagine looking down on the tent so the stage is at 12 o'clock, the back of the tent is 6 o'clock, the right hand side is 3 o'clock etc. Then you imagine a hand running out from the centre to whatever o'clock it is. A quarter of the way from the centre to the edge is a quarter to, half way is half past, three quarters is a quarter past etc. So you can arrange to meet someone at a quarter past three and you know exactly where they are.

You can use the same system in front of the Jazz World where the stage is 12 o'clock and the sound desk is 6 o'clock etc.

We've experimented with a small flag on a bamboo pole for friends to meet up but it peeves people off and is more trouble than it's worth.

My worst experience was a good few years ago when I didn't really register exactly where my car was. I'd parked it next to a big red van which was going to be my landmark. Problem was when I came to leave the big red van had already gone. I walked round for ages before I found it. Now I mark on my map where the car is parked when I leave it.

The railway line is the best way to get around if you don't know where you are going.

Traveling along the railway line from gate D to Shangri la turn left to go to the dance village or other stage travel through the dance village to get to the John Peel stage past there to the Cinema field. Back on the Railway turn right takes you up to the Park. Once you have passed the Other stage you will see the Glade on your left the next left after the Glade takes you to the Pyramid Stage. The next left after that takes you to the Greenpeace field this is a sloped path in to the field. There comes a crossroads next where right takes you in to the Green fields and up to the stone circle left for another entrance to the Greenpeace field and the Jazz world stage, with the Jazz world staghe on your right walk over ther bridge and a very good Caribian food stall on your left Yam Casarver and straight on to what ever is replacing the Leftfield once there turn right up to the Kids field (hot showers are there) and the Acoustic field. Back on the railway line, straight on to left turn to field of Avalon then on to the comedy tent cricirs and up to the Acustic field. The railway line ends with the joy of Trash city and Shangri La.

I have an absolutely shocking sense of direction at the best of times, and can't map-read to save my life, so I get TOTALLY lost on arrival every year without fail, (probably doesn't help that I don't think I've camped in the same area twice). Didn't even realise what the railway line WAS for a couple of years. Never quite got to grips with the site but try not to worry about it too much. Worst was in 07 when I fell over in the Park at midnight (ish) and was totally coated in mud and realised I was at the furthest possible point from tent (Hitchins? Lime Kiln? I forget.) Felt like the longest walk ever while muttering to myself like a loon.

Happy days.

i'm not too bad finding my way. although occasionally i find myself somewhere i didn't expect to be.

in crowd a good method is triangulation. if you want to go back to were you where then pick three points that make a triangle and add yourself as the fourth point. making it easy to get back. although after the 6th or 7th trip to the bar its stops worknig......... not sure why?

Don't Panic. You get a very good map on arrival and most places are well signposted. You also get a ticket when you park your car saying what field it's in.

If in doubt mark on the map where your tent is and where in the field your car is parked.

DON'T LOSE THE MAP!

It was quite handy for me really, since the family camping was right near the acoustic stage which was by the left feild, I knew that if I felt like a wander then I could just go back there. I don't knwo how I'm gonna handle this year though, since there is going to be no massive sign saying "Left feild". Hopefully they will mark the new tent there with a massive flag or something distinctive like that.

Cheers,
