Vango Tents

Thanks for that lol you have managed to stop world war three between me and the other half. He does not want to put the tent up as he says we will not get it back in its bag as neatly!!

Is the living area big enough for a few people to sit in there on their camping chairs?

Yeah, the living area is big enough for a small ish table and chairs and any festival paraphernalia you may have!

The tent is easy to fold and pack away. Fold it in half along its length. Do this twice. Then roll up it all up. Easy peasy!

Also, if you get the footprint ground sheet it makes positioning the tent easy and allows you to pack up the tent without getting it muddy

I've got a Vango Sigma 300+ for this year (got it in the winter sales), not tried it out yet. Trying to resist until I've got through my exams in the next few weeks.

Looking forward to trying it out in the garden though!

I also hate the tent suffocation thing, as I rarely get back before 6. Liking the idea of a tent with two porches for airflow.

I went to have a quick look yesterday and also came across a Vango Banshee 300, it doesn't have the double porch, but does have excellent ventilation as most of the inside is mesh. The big advantage is that it only weighs 2.5kg. Although there isn't much porch space, but I would be in there on my own so plenty of space inside.

Just wondered if anyone has one of these, and does the mesh ventilation work?

I just bought the Tigris 400 for this year. Put it up a few days ago in the garden and it's absolutely massive compared to our old tent (Vango Venture 400). Great quality, and the TBS straps help keep the frame strong in the wind so the issues with the general instability of tunnel tents (compared to dome tents) are reduced.

Unlike most tent descriptions, I think you actually could fit four people in the Tigris 400 comfortably. It'll just be me and my girl though we'll have tons of room!

The Tigris is basically the 2009 version of the Yukon.

Having the ventilation in the inside won't help so much, you need to get ventilation from the outside to the inside (i.e. through the fly sheet). The flysheet acts like a greenhouse.

However, from the image it looks like there is a roof vent? That makes a difference, and allows the superheated air to rise and escape. Also, having no porch, and the bedroom quite near the doorway, should be OK. Not quite as good as having two porches at opposite ends of the bedroom.

I suppose it depends how much time you spend there, also if you camp with others who have porch space or a gazebo? Mine is just to get my head down for a few hours, and we have a gazebo between lots of us, so seems a lot of extra carrying for something that won't get used. I suppose the other thing to consider is if you will use it for general car camping other than festies?

I got a Vango after my tent got a little tired after Glasto 2007! It held up well at Reading fest and i have great faith in it for this years Glasto. Nice and roomy and you can stand up in it! I'm 5ft 10in and the boyfriend is 6ft 1in and we could both stand up easily.

I got mine from Decathlon, think it was about £100, well worth it though!

Hurrah for missniki for the lovely detailed reply, and to answer jenn666 no I haven't yet, I do like to ponder these things :D

I would be having it all to myself, so hopefully it would be roomy enough. It is supposed to have 3000 hydrostatic head so should be ok on the not letting water in. I do spend v little time in my tents at festis, and other people that we are camping with will have a gazebo or large porch, so that's not such an issue for me. Did you put things through the little zip bit at your head??

Anyway thanks v much for the replies, I'm looking again this weekend, so will have a look at the Tempest. Ohh it is exciting only 4 weeks to go :D

Not quite the same as a proper porch, but Vango have the Adventure Tarp, which is listed as compatible with the Banshee, Tempest, Dart, Swift, Alpha, Sigma etc.

I'm thinking of getting this for my Sigma 300+. It will provide shelter to the entrance, and stop rain water going into the actual porch. The pole is 160cm high, so I can sit under it in a camping chair.

i've got the banshee 300 and here's my 2 cents... i camped in it for 3 nights this weekend with my boyfriend. firstly, it's a bit cramped for 2 people with bags etc. but manageable, esp. if you spend no time in your tent at all. i'm a bit worried about any rain though, because the porch really is non-existent. the ventilation is excellent, no condensation in the inside of the tent at all. BUT, it all seems to be attracted to the outside of the tent, by about 10pm it was soaking wet on the outside but didn't really soak through unless you touched the 2 layers together. bonuses though, are that the tent is VERY light and compact, offers good ventilation and won't leak hardly (there was a bit of rainfall on monday morning but didn't leak). minuses: a bit cramped, condensation on outside means a pain to pack up early in the morning, and a lack of porch which is VERY important when camping in the rain!

if you're looking at a similar tent but with a porch try the vango tempest.
