stop Anvil getting to Glastonbury

Anvil are doing all they can to try and get booked for Glastonbury. You'll see the blurb from their campaign below, but what worth is it really?

Thousands and thousands voted for Rick Astley to win an MTV award - which he didn't get - via the Rick Rolling thing, but the vast majority of the people voting either didn't know what they were voting for or were voting for him as a pisstake. Which just goes to show how worthless these sorts of campaigns are.

Should Glastonbury book bands due to public pressure? If so, we'll soon have a line-up of Westlife, Take That, and The Saturdays .... nice.

I think that festivals should define themselves via the acts they book themselves, and not from public pressure. I'm sure all of us who have attended festivals for years are very pleased that they do, as its enabled us to find and enjoy many superb bands that would otherwise be buried under a mound of dross.

If anyone wants to start a counter petition one of those petition sites, feel free. It's got to be a better way than a future of The Sun's bizarre column and its like picking the bands for us.

GET ANVIL TO GLASTONBURY!

ANVIL NEED YOU!

London, United Kingdom, Anvil! The Story of Anvil was the movie that rocked the UK when it came to cinemas in February 2009. Winning rave reviews from documentary makers, music fans and film buffs, Canadian rockers Anvil have taken the world by storm…but now you can help them fulfil their destiny!

In the early 1980’s, metal’s very own demi-gods, Anvil, took the stage at the biggest gig of their lives. They were the inspiration behind a musical generation of bands such as Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax, but Anvil’s career took a less successful path…until now!

Thanks to the phenomenal success of the movie we have all learnt about Anvil and their dream (including celebrity fans like Keanu Reeves and even the Prime Ministers wife!) and it is now your duty to help fulfill their ultimate ambition…Get Anvil to Glastonbury!

Can we make it happen? In the words of Barrack Obama…YES WE CAN!!!! Register your support and sign the online petition at www.thestoryofanvil.co.uk to get the band to the world’s most famous music festival to play alongside some of music’s biggest names including Bruce Springsteen and Blur. Already over 1000 people have signed the petition and with your support the power of the people can make it happen.

Every time 100 people sign our petition we will contact the organizers of Glastonbury to inform them of the growing support and with your signature the sway of public opinion can make Anvil’s dream come true. Emily Eavis, daughter of Michael Eavis, the founder of Glastonbury has already acknowledged the petition but with your support how can they say no?!

Anvil! The Story Of Anvil, available on DVD & Blu-ray on 15th June 2009, follows the enduring and life affirming friendship of Steve ‘Lips’ Kudlow and Robb Reiner and their quest for fame and fortune as they set off to record their 13th album in one last attempt to fulfill their lifelong dream of success and stardom – a dream they have never stopped following since Lips and Robb met nearly 40 years ago in their childhood city of Toronto, Canada.

A note from Lips “Join us and make history. Get online and sign the petition so we can play at Glastonbury. Yeah, we want to rock!! Metal on Metal forever!!!”

Neil, I am thoroughly disappointed with you. :P

Anvil at Glasto would be a great laugh, and while The Sun's predictable campaign is tedious and unlikely due to them ever having actually heard the band, metal at Glasto is a rare and welcome novelty.

EDIT: Although I hasten to add I would never want The Sun to think it had any serious influence on Glasto, I'm speaking purely about the band here.

...but regarding the whole Anvil thing, I do find it a bit embarrassing when bands harp on; 'I like Glastonbury. I really want to play Glastonbury. PLEASE can we play Glastonbury?' Etc... And if they're going to echo the American president in their desperate PR campaign they should at least spell his name correctly!
