Has any noticed that with the current economic crisis (similar to that of the 1980s) we are seeing shity electro bands pop up all over the place (similar to those of the 1980s) its bollocks! we need music that will reflect the bad situation the worlds in, not more duran duran/human league wannabes (i.e La Roux) what form do you think the new Smiths will emerge as.

i only brought it up (edit) here because most of these disco bands are playing the festivals across the country!

In fairness, its a nice change at the moment to the saturation of Snow Patrol/Coldplay/Killers/Arctic Monkeys stuff that we've been subjected to of late.

Although I have to admit that La Roux are not amazing. That bird's voice really drives me mad. I prefer Ladyhawke.

electro bands play festivals every year. just dont wathc them and watch someone else...geesh and there are some fantastic electro bands in the last 20 years.

to be honest there wont be another band as good as the smiths ever again! except maybe shed seven

Gaaz its each to their own mate, Eurythmics were awesome (still absolute tunes after all these years). Like everything genres come around and round - otherwise things would become stale and we'd all be listening to the same stuff.

I'm into hard rock myself but listen to most things, a little something different wouldn't be so bad.

every generic indie band sings about the current situation the worlds in, if thats what your after, its really not hard to find.

this post is a bit of a dig at electro music from an indie point of view if you ask me. if you dont like mainstream electro music i highly recommend doing a bit of digging, check out the knife (a brilliant electro band, not big in britain and youll NEVER see them live but they make brilliant music)

Just cos a lot of electro bands are getting media attention at the moment doesn't mean they're all jumping on a bandwagon, a lot of those bands could have been around for a good few years and might just be getting the attention cos some electro bands broke into the mainstream

On the same subject, I went to see "we will rock you" the Queen show in manchester and it was based around a similar theme, set in the future, rock music banned and instruments illegal and all you could sing and dance to was computer genereated music, the holy grail was a guitar. It is a really good show even if you are not into Queen music, this thread reminded me of it. The morale of the story was also you should live through your children and move on, keep up with the times whether they are reminicent of decades earlier but keep in touch with what is happeneing each and every day.

True escapism is one thing but most people want the songs to be about stuff they know - people singing about stuff you've never heard of or how great their lives are generally bomb in a recession...

Indie I'd be quite happy if Lady GaGa disappeared tbh, then again not my thing! Ladyhawke are good though.

But your right - papers only interested if a 'star' is:

1. Caught up to no good

2. Chav that they have promoted

3. Snuffed it

4. Scantily clad

5. All of the above
