so it's not that Glastonbury is exspensive. It's that you are skint?

this is a problem which we all face sometime in our lives, lack of cash etc.

But as they say "absence makes the heart grow stronger"

Good luck with your studies and look forward to next year and more money....

yeah my mate did that in 2005 but he ended up not seeing much of the music at all and he said he wouldnt do it again -i met up with him at the fest when we was working and he was shattered-worked 4 12 hour shifts out of the 5 days he was there!

plus i dont wana spend my only holiday working!! only get 4 weeks off a year being a nursing student -on placement all summer when other students are off!! bummer! so if i got tickets for glasto its when im on placement doing 3-4 12 hour shifts plus working so kinda would be shattered!

I am now trying to win a ticket but seems like i have no chance-everyone whos going- are so lucky!!!

Its the best festival ever-just too expensive!!

anyone know of websites with comps to win a ticket?

music festival in croatia is like 50 quid for a ticket and 50 quid for a return flight and 20 euros a night for accom or free camping and has an amazing line up- http://www.soundwavecroatia.com/ warm weather etc!

i cant go due to being on a nursing placement at the time but thats just an example of the price it should be! so im going to croatia in august for a week instead! cheaper than glasto tickets for flight and accom for a week!

average UK salary= 479 quid/ week.

Glastonbury ticket = 180 quid

Average Croatian salary 109 euros/week

soundwave ticket = 50 euros

Comparatively, it's pretty much the same, with the croatian one, if anything, being slightly more expensive G= 0.375 of the average week's wage, soundwave = .45 of the average week's wage)

The particular Croatian festival cited was a very poor way of making a case. Two and a bit stages, a low key lineup, generally very very poor value compared with something like EXIT in Serbia, which has Krafwerk and a whole lot more. Cheap beer, sunshine, and set around an old fort by the Danube: £70 quid, vs. £50 to go to an obscure if pretty hotel, with some fairly middling acts.

And even then, if you're not local, the costs quickly escalate. Forget the £50 flight fantasy. For either Croatia or Serbia it's about £250 flying with Ryanair, before baggage charges. Essentially you'll have spent £350 just walking out of your front door, so no end of cheap and lovely Eastern European beer will make it cheap!

The great 'European Festivals are Cheaper for Brits' myth

A few years ago, when I was deeply bored at work, I calculated how much 'money's worth' I'd got out of Glasto - five night's camping, parking, the equivalent 'individual gig ticket' price of each band, and it worked out at about £300 over the weekend (not including free use of infrastructure like loos, firewood, water, showers, and considering I only saw one of the 'big' headliners). So yeah, pretty good...

You get what you pay for. Even if Glasto was fifty quid more than other major UK festivals it would be worth it. Nowhere else offers anything like the range of entertainment and site activities.

The only answer if money is tight is to save for it. A fiver a week in a Glasto pot does it and if you don't get a ticket buy yourself a treat with the savings as compensation.

I have a ticket from 1998 (priced at £80) and I can't quite believe prices have doubled in just over a decade. However as people have said before it is still remarkable value. I am going to see Blur in Hyde park and that is costing £50 and if you wanted to see the 3 headliners at their own gigs I am pretty sure it would cost you nearly as much as a Glasto ticket. And the headliners are just for the icing on the huge Glastonbury cake.

I can't see anything but a price increase next year. I think the problem they have this year is that the American artists will be getting paid considerably less then last year due to the collapse of the pound (unless they get paid in dollars). If the exchange rate stays as it is then the cost of booking US artists will be considerable.

I think the main thing that they could do to ease the burden is to allow the use of credit cards to pay for the tickets. They originally only allowed debit cards to reduce the risk of touts buying multiple tickets which is no longer an issue with ticket registration. I am guessing they just don’t want the extra cost of credit card fees.

Im a student too, on top of fees etc. i also pay for my phonebill, car insurance, gym membership every month and i only work 18 hours a week. if you want to go to glastonbury as much as you say u do then u find the money for it some how! and imo glastonbury is very reasonably priced!!! for v festival this year ticket was £160 for 2 days of music, there is only 5 stages, nothing goes on after 11pm its back to the campsites and your locked out the arena, on top of that they charge you an extra £10 2 find out whos playing where and at what time. now if u compare that to glastonbury there is a shocking difference
