while we have tickets for the festival i can't get time off from my job till Thursday even then i can't arrive till 1900 hours. I can though have some time off on Wednesday am, so i was wondering what was the situation with me taking our two tents, arriving by about 0900 hours and pitching them ready for Thursday night. I am only 20 mile from the site so getting there is no problem. Would the tents be safe, i would hate to turn up on Thursday to find them gone. Also as newbie, what would be the best area to camp, i don't want near the stages, prefer a little more calm, and not suspect to flooding. My fist visit last year was near the John Peel stage.....can't rember what it was called, don't want there again

Good idea, but bear in mind it could take you a few hours getting on/off site. If you're unlucky there could be a delay opening the site to the public, and you might get stuck in a queue at the pedestrian gates. I've generally been OK, but last year got stuck in a hideous queue at PGB, and didn't get to the field I wanted to be in until around noon or so (I'd been in the car parks at 8AM).

Were you stuck in the massive PGB queues as well? It rained very slightly at one point, not nice!

Which field did they park you in, arriving at around 9? We got stuck in some very far north field, on a steep slope. Normally I've gone through PGC, they wouldn't let us down to that gate, did they direct you up to PGB then?

Sorry, lots of questions, just wondering whether to avoid the east side of the site this year, as I don't fancy a repeat of the PGB experience again! :P

We have used PGC prob 6 times now , and never had to qeue before. From what I can gather there

was something wrong with B and they were not allowig anyone through it on the Wednesday at least.

We always camp in big ground so it was not really a problem for us once we were thru the gate anyway.

I can be there by 8am, but have to be back in work ( Taunton ) by 3pm, this would by the look of it be ok, as long as i could leave by 2pm at the latest it seems ok. I could possibly do it o Thursday am, but time is tighter then. Just thought it would be easier than rushing on Thursday night, i would skip work, but its not an option as i can't get cover and need the job.

Yeah, we've usually been in E11 as well, was quite surprised to end up near E1, some field around there on a terrible slope anyway! :P My mate had to go off-site on Friday after the rain, he said that field was treacherous, and cars were sliding all over the place!

Maybe that explains the large delay as I was going into the first field off the feeder road? Traffic was flowing slowly, then suddenly stopped dead for 30mins or so. The stewards were holding cars at the car-park ticket purchasing place, eventually a 4x4 came bouncing across the field at 60mph and traffic started flowing again. Not sure what the problem was, perhaps they were working out where to direct the traffic as PGC had problems?

Here's hoping to sail straight into E11 and through PGC this year with no delays! :)

I was worried that the traffic would have to leave through the route we had entered as we were parked at the bottom and if the weather had been bad getting back up the hill would have been horrendous! I was stuck in the same traffic so must have arrived at a similiar time to you from what you have said.

Wasn't it Wed morning last year when there was huge fire off site at a garage or something, sent the big plume of smoke up over the East of the site?

I think some of the gate/road hassles may have been caused by this as I know they had to close some gates and roads temporarily for safety reasons.
