Anyone been with a leg/foot injury?

Back at the beginning of February, I dislocated one of my kneecaps very badly playing rugby. Nearly 2.5 months later I'm still having problems with my mobility- I can walk but get worn out after a while, I can't manage going up or down stairs properly (do it like a 2 year old, good foot then the other) and nor can I run or jump up and down or something.

My thoughts have already turned to Glasto and what it will be like trying to have to fight my way through mud (not that it's going to rain!) if I'm not better in time. For the first month or so after doing it I had to wear a leg brace to keep things stable- a very stiff tubular bandage thing supported by metal- while I moved around which I could bring with me. I've also got my own pair of crutches which I could bring if necessary.

Maybe I'm being a bit premature because hopefully I'll be 100% better but I'd like to be prepared. Anyone been in a similar position? How did you manage- were you okay getting around?

i broke one of my kneecaps in march 2007 and made it to glastonbury fine, i took my crutches but left them in the car as a backup.my doc thought i was well enough to go back to work the next week though, i dunno how different your injury is to mine.

Howl went last year with a busted up leg, maybe get him in here.

A couple of years ago my daughter broke her foot four weeks before Glasto after falling over a balcony at a student party (methinks drink may have had something to do with it) so ended up with her foot in plaster.

But she wasn't going to miss Glasto so went with a pair of crutches and her plastered foot wrapped up in Tesco carrier bags.

It was the year of the Big Mud. The crutches proved useless. They just sank and got stuck in the mud and within 36 hours the plaster cast was so sodden that she cut it off.

Looking back I'm not sure if she was brave or foolish. The cast was due to be removed the week after Glasto anyway and luckily her foot had largely healed so there was no long term damage.

But it's a gamble and depends on the nature of your injury and the long term consequences of whatever not healing properly. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.

Pezzypops- according to my phsyio it would have been better if I'd broken something- I stretched the ligaments badly and damaged the cartilage which is why nearly 2.5 months later I still can't bend it and put weight on it to get up the stairs. How do they treat a broken kneecap by the way?

I shall ask Howl he managed too.
