Was this enforced last year? if so how strongly?

Can you have a fag in the comedy tent for example, or will somebody come and tell you off?

Does it depend on the tent? i mean i can't imagine going to the tiny tea tent without having a bit of a smoke.

once you are in the middle of a crowd its hard to tell who's smoking for the stewards. i didnt see anyone being hauled out or told off last year. i wouldnt have thought it would go down well in some of the smaller tents though like the guardian tent or the smaller circus tent, it may however give the tumbling africans something else and novel to backflip through if there are some smoke rings blown on to the stage !

Last year my friend Jo got told off 3 times for smoking in the inn in The Park !

That was in the space of about 1/2 hour by the same steward !

Personally , the steward should have cut her wrist band and escorted her off site !

I'm a 30+ a day smoker and that's bad enough but the one thing I won't be is a littering smoker. If you've ever done a festival litter pick you'll understand.

At festivals (and generally) I carry a small 35mm film container into which I put my butts until I get to somewhere where there is a bin into which I can empty it.

The container is air tight so the smell of the butts doesn't get into your clothes.

Go into any film processing shop and ask them for some old containers and they will give you a handful. The best ones are the aluminium ones if they have any.

As for smoking in tents places like the Comedy or Acoustic Tent, I think it's only reasonable to follow the rules both in fairness to others and on health and safety grounds. If it's no smoking then you don't smoke inside - you go to the edge where you can smoke or you go out for a fag and then go back.

I always used to think that cigarettes and music went together but I've accepted that the world has moved on.

Festivals are not exempt from the laws of the land and there will be people from the local authority licensing department checking that the laws are being followed. If they are flouted big time then the festival risks its next licensing application being opposed. That's one of the reasons why stewards have the uneviable task of asking people to follow the rules.

We've generally accepted the 'no glass' rule and I think we smokers also have to accept the no smoking rules too.

I agree with Grumpy. Just comply. It's the only way you can get the full impact of everybody else's body odour, vomit, after-shave, cheap perfume, piss, etc.

Actually, the only time that I flout the ban is when venues prohibit re-admission, like the O2. What's that all about? If I'm feeling especially vindictive I then report them for allowing smoking in the venue.

Yeah why would a smoker want to be like a non smoker. Less chance of several cancers and numerous illnesses; healthier skin, hair, teeth and nails; less smell; save money; no addiction etc etc

Only an idiot would want to stop and be like that
