i'd already decided that i was taking mine anyway, im 39 and not really inclined to blow things up for a laugh, much prefer to have my hot drinks to function with.

i do seem to remember some tw*t camping about 10foot away from me who laughed like a horse until nearly 6am 5 nights on the trot, the thought of blowing her up this year on night 1 does seem appealing if i hear her dulcid neighs nearby !

They've banned gas canisters at Reading and Leeds this year, but thats cus some twats like to use them to blow up toilets and tents on the sunday night. I can't see anyone misusing them at Glastonbury, but you never know. Check out the website it should say on there if they've been banned.

was flicking through the may camping magazine and on page 9 there is a letter which reads -

"following incidents of booby trapping of abandoned tents at shows like download and glastonbury, virtually all festivals have now banned gas canisters in any shape or form.

it seems some festival goers found it amusing to leave tents with gas canisters open and a device on the zip to create a spark, leaving the poor steward burned as they attempted to clear the field.

as a result there is little point taking your own cooking facilities to this years music festivals as they will not be welcomed."

i've taken a small gas canister for the last few years to make my morning coffee and heat the occasional tin of beans etc up, i cant say i've ever heard of booby trapped tents in the past and didnt know that gas canisters were on the banned list !

is this true or just a croc of shat ?

im sure come june the usual campingaz mini stove will be packed in my bag as usual, mornings without a few cups of coffee after a night on the beer seem to grim a prospect !

it would certainly push up the price of glastonbury for me and the lads im going with if you couldnt cook and make hot drinks for yourself, for 3 of us you're talking about £20 for each meal and drink to go with it. next thing you know they'll be banning bringing youre own alcohol in !!! :):)

  • 3 weeks later...

Last year my friend was carrying his stove (a cheap one that comes in a little plastic breifcase) when he got to the gate. They took all has gas canisters off him. He dumped the stove at the gate as he though that he wasn't allowed to use it.

He was pretty p*ssed off later to find that the gas canisters for this and several other types were on sale inside the festicval site at several of the retailers.

Seems pretty stupid idea to take them off people if they can buy them on-site anyway. If some moron wan't to have some jolly wheeze (or something much more sinister) then having to spend an extra few quid on fuel / ammo isn't really going to stop them

I've moved to a meths burner, less agro, or so I thought, apparently most festivals are not aloud to sell Meths for stoves as stupid idiots were drinking the stuff!

I managed to get my kit down to what is effectively a meths powered travel kettle, its compact, little trouble, suits my sluggish nature more than a cylinder stove. Especially as all I want to do is boil water (washes, cuppas, cuppa soups etc).

....and the woe continues....

According to today's Guardian, following a spate of similar "pranks" designed to surprise unwary stewards checking tents, further items have been added to the "banned" list, which may lead to confiscation, refusal of admission, or even prosecution.

The list has been expanded to include;

Pressurised cannisters of whipped cream

Tins labelled as "cashew nuts", but actually containing spring loaded paper "snakes"

Whoopee cushions

9 volt batteries physically suitable for application to a tongue,

and

Nuclear devices, including raw elements such as plutonium.

Typical.

It's always the way, isn't it? A few jokers spoil it for us all.
