Hey Guys,

If animal collective headline on the friday (which I really hope they do) at the park stage, then afterwards me and dad are planning to head down to shangri la to get a little taste of the festival atmosphere at night. I was just wandering wether anyone else has been and what the atmosphere is actually like here, I mean obviously most people on here have been but last year we were going to go there after Gilbert O Sullivan headlining the acoustic, but after walking out at night my dad said it was too rough! (I know what your thinking, and to be honest with you I was thinking the same thing). But hopefully if we do manage to get to the park on the friday night then that will incourage my dad to go to Shangri La because it would be nearer. So I was just wandering, what is the atmosphere really like, and what is there to do there?

Cheers,

The Earth's atmosphere (or air) is a layer of gases surrounding the planet Earth that is retained by the Earth's gravity. Dry air contains roughly (by volume) 78.08% nitrogen, 20.95% oxygen, 0.93% argon, 0.038% carbon dioxide, and trace amounts of other gases. Air also contains a variable amount of water vapor, on average around 1%. The atmosphere protects life on Earth by absorbing ultraviolet solar radiation, warming the surface through heat retention (greenhouse effect), and reducing temperature extremes between day and night.

Pretty much the same as day except the temperature is a little colder lol. :)

It's definitely not ruff. Crazy but not ruff..Turning up at midnight on Friday night though might be very hectic and may not be the best introduction. But at the same time prob the most dramatic and effective..Remember there are 2 areas, (near each other), Trash City and Shangri La. Last year shangri la was a bit more chilled when i went, this year though they will prob have a different layout..This video gives you a pretty good idea of what to expect at trash city at peak time..

to be honest the only thing to worry about is crowds, otherwise enjoy..if you are still up at 2 this is prob a better time..maybe walk from the park, chill at the stone circle for a bit, prepare yourself, then cut across the dragon camping field to shangri la (avoiding ques) and see what you think, if too much come back later!. Avoid the entrance from the old railway track if poss...you REALLY should go though. i went with my mum and dad last year and they loved it..i think it's great to experience these things together....enjoy

Think people have summed it up well so far. I agree about the 2 to 3 timeframe. If you attempt to go there just after, or even within an hour or so, of the main stages closing - it will be packed, with a massive crowd trying to get in there. Although the vast majority of the crowd is very happy, I have seen some people getting upset. A heap of stewards are down there for crowd control at this time, and the infamous one-way system comes into play.

Fortunately most of the crowd eventually does dissipate a little, people wander through, then wander off.

It's definitely not rough down there, the worst was on the railway track, and the choke points into Trash City during the height of the crowds.

it's definately worth taking a look even if you decide it's not for you; the spectacle of Trash City and the mish mash of entertainment in Shangri La are fab. I got so into it i forgot i was in the middle of field in somerset and felt like i was in something more permanent, like a club or a village or something.

I was of course, completely off my head... but you don't have to be :)
