That's why I was asking what kind of college/course it is.

Most 6th formers have finished their exams by Glast time, there's always one or two though that haven't and I certainly wouldn't be advocating taking time off if that's the case. My youngest has a GCSE science exam on the Thursday and he'll have to make his own way down after that.

Sounds like tickets are bought in this case and that the decision was already made, so a bit late for the should I / shouldn't I debate.

They only register labs at my course at Uni so I technically would only miss those, I can literally take Monday afternoon to Friday morning off each week and they would have no clue! I'll be finished well before Glasto though so no worries.

This is no help at all, salt in wounds is always fun though

I'd hate to be at a college like that! They will know what your upto, so just tell them now. Go whether they say you can or not, at least they know.

Well because I'm Scottish, the Thursday of Glasto is my last day, and thats prize giving anyway  But loads of people take days off to go on holiday, so why shouldn't I :L Worst case scenario, i get my music teacher to back my point up to my guidance teacher, who will probably be quite happy for me to go anyway

I work in a College and deal with absences/EMA etc, and some of the reasons we get for students being off are awesome. A particular favourite was "I can't come in today, I've got to cook my grans dinner" and that was it, they rang in, and because they followed procedure, they were ok.

Just be honest. Think about how you'll feel if you lie about where you've been, and then get back, want to talk about it but can't for fear of your tutor finding out.

I help some of my favourite students "bend the truth" about why they're going to be off.

For example, you could get your mam or dad to write a letter saying

"Dear Nazi Tutor,

X won't be in college on the following dates. This is due to a family trip that can only be taken during these dates"

Keep it short and simple. Anything longer and you'll be spinning a web of lies and you'll forget what you've said and to who.

I got my holidays in early for Glasto/TITP and Leeds as I know that Enrollement days are on all though the summer. Principal emailed me to see if I could cover, and I was honest and said no chance, I'm off to Glasto and she was fine.

I know it's a bit different,

But I'm in secondary school, and the week before glastonbury I just told everybody about it even my head of year and nobody really cared. The best thing ever was last lesson on the wednesday, it was in science and we had a cover lesson, and the cover teacher obviously wondered why I was so buzzing and I said "This time tommorow I will be in a feild having the time of my life", and she replyed "I know how you feel, I went in 1998". Then for the rest of the lesson she started sharing her memories of glasto to me, and she was surprised about how much I knew about it even though I have never been there.

This year however will be prettey different, because I wont have any school so I'll just be sitting there on the sunday overcome with exitement. I plan to watch all of the recorded footage of last year throughout the week, and watch the DVD numerous times.

But seriously though, you will be absolutely fine mate. Just tell them that your going to Glastonbury, there is nothing that they can do because you have payed for your ticket, and it would be a waste of £180.00! And in todays credit crunch, nobody can waste that amount of money!

Cheers,

Well I teach in a college and I'm going!!! and one of my students who happens to be best friends with my niece is going with us. :P

I'd suggest do an arts course we're much more relaxed, I look at it from the point of view that going to the best performing arts festival in the world is great primary research :D

In the past I've gotten out of class by making up an elaborate lie that I was required to attend a festival for my promotions internship to promote bands all weekend. The internship wasn't a lie, but I wasn't doing any such promoting at said festival.

I've also faked a cousin's funeral for Regina Spektor, a college interview for The Strokes, and I can't even count the amount of times I've had mysterious illnesses the days of Arctic Monkeys shows in the Midwest.

Another good one was back in high school I had to get out of a Spanish class to see Franz Ferdinand, so I told my teacher that I was visiting "Dr. Kapranos" for an appointment. I ended up meeting Alex that night and told him about it, and he replied that he had an uncle that was a doctor, so I wasn't technically lying...and offered to sign a note to aid in my delinquency...not that I needed it, my mom, a big Franz fan herself, was at the show with me and had already taken care of it.
