Getting Aboot...

1st timer this year...

I'm just wondering what it's like getting from stage to stage.

I'm a T in the Parker and I reckon T in the Park is pretty good for this, and you can probably get from one end of the 'arena' to the other end in 10-15 mins if you have a mind about you.

People just talk about how big Glasto is and that it's miles from one are to the other?

Also... the circle at the front of the main stage! I don't mind circles too much, as long as I'm in them. Usually at T you can queue up just as a band are finishing and get in easilly enough for the next act. Is this the case at Glasto?

Depends on the stages

Can take 30 mins to get from Pyramid to Other Stage if really busy.

Smaller stages south of the railway line are just next field etc :)

Anyway, get the monorail as its far quicker!

Oh and the circle at the front of the Pyramid isn't like T, it's more like a curved barrier a bit further back and open at each end... no queuing

Well there are lots of areas at Glastonbury. Not sure how it compares to T in the Park. I would say it takes a good 15 minutes to get from the Pyramid to the Other in the crowds. Then you have all the other areas as well. There is really so much to see and do there. Sorry, I probably haven't been very helpful!

I was surprised at how fast you can get around in the right conditions (small crowds, no mud)... but if it's a time when everyone's on the move then it can easily take 4 times as long.

Obviously it really does depend on if it's muddy. I haven't experienced a really muddy Glastonbury myself, but having been to Beautiful Days last year I know that the mud can significantly slow you down.

And as has been mentioned, there are so many distractions in Glastonbury that you have to leave a long time to get anywhere. The amount of times people were late for meeting up, saying things like "I'm so sorry, but there was this gorilla, with a cage... and a boat in the sky..." and of course the FOOD.

problem i had before i went the first time was that id seen the map and the line up, id just planned to watch x on pyramid then head over to watch y on park stage before going to john peel to catch someone else. its relly hard to judge the distances and times involved in getting from stage to stage. whats never really understood until you get there is that you cant just walk in a straight line from stage to stage. the pathways take long routes to keep you from strolling around tents, through streets of makeshift shops and food joints. there are also loads of private roads throughout the site for the bin men, tractors, clean up crew etc.

dont plan to see anyone within 20 minutes of the last act finishing unless its on the same stage.

yeah, I think the advice I always give is to only aim to see one or two definite bands a day, otherwise you're going to spend all your time dashing along metal trackway and you'll miss loads more than you actually get to see.

i remenber sat afternoon last year leaving the tent with no real intention of seeing anyone and just wanting to look around the site, passing through nearly all the fields except the camping and having a look around as well as a couple of beers along the way took the best part of 5 and a half hours, and that was without really taking in any acts apart from a quick visit to the circus tent and watching the skateboard ramp for 10 minutes

If you move whilst bands are playing tis not too bad. In 2005 it was awful cus with every step you had to wrench your foot out of the mud, last year was fine for me cus the ground was hard and people seemed to be more content with just sitting around.

i found that strange at times last year as well, there were groups of people who arrived at a stage long before the first act of the day, with chairs and a cool box and basically sat there at the same stage from start till finish, couldnt imagine watching the same stage for about 13 hours a day without moving.

there were at least 3 sets of people doing this at the pyramid and i saw a couple at the other stage

think about the slam tent to as far as you can go in the campsite and your about a third of the way there.

from the park stage to the acoustic would take about 45 mins on a march.

dance village to shangri la about the same and thats if its not muddy.

Worst place I found was Trash City and Shangri-La at night. Must've took an hour (although I was off me head) to get through the one way system! "Please keep to the left!" That tannoy still freaks the shit out of me, I still hear it everywhere I go. It's got a strangely disturbing rhythm :S

i remember the one way system as well, also remember the one way system they tried to put in place when people were trying to get to the pyramid to see jay z, because winehouse had just finished there were so many people heading both ways through a thin walkway that it was a genuine crush with kids crying, tempers getting flared and people nearly pushing you over.

was without a doubt the worst moment of last year being stuck in the push for about 20 minutes trying to reach the stage and being split up from the lads
