I'm new 2 the reading festival, wheres the best place 2 camp, and how is it designated, or is it just a free-for-all, first come first serve?? Thanks guys

its a free for all indeed! if you like your sleep go to red or white. if you like your easy arena access with the same crazy antics then its yellow or green for you. or if you want an alright location with mental night antics then its looking like its brown or purple. or if you want a nice combination of it all then I guess orange.

I always wait til I get there to decide. First year I went I camped in green and it was rather tame. 2nd year I was in Brown and could barely sleep the night I went bed early. And last year I camped in Indigo and it was amazing but that is reverting back to Brown I think.

Yea, free for all it is... everyone runs to the grass and gets the best spots.... Personally, our camp like to be in center of it all... Yellow Camp Site is mayhem

Purple and yellow are crazy at night, last years purple was good, but sunday was a bit mentle, didnt have any problems with sleep ( Beer + Pillow = Sleep).

we stayed in green in 06/07 , but last year we were in purple

both seem fine to me tbh

I'm a Green camper. Always have been, it's close to all the parties and has it's own craziness, but not to the extent of Yellow, which was too much. Green, you can sleep AND have fun!

Camped in Green first 3 years I went and it seemed fine really - camped in yellow last 2 years and it gets a bit insane, on the Sunday night especially.

The harder to reach parts of Green are comfortably the best if you've got proper boots. It's the perfect balance of closeness to the arena and distance from twats (Sunday night aside).

If your walking over the bride from the main part of green to the traders you carry along asif you were going to the arena but when you get to the entrance dont turn left into it turn right.

AHHH yep. deff been green for me in 06/07 and then purple iirc in 08 - purple being right down near an entrance/exist and the bridge which crosses the river?

No purple is a bit more central than that, brown is near the bridge and has an entrance/exit in it. About as far in the camp-site as you can go without crossing the river to white.

Right another newbie to reading fest this year and after reading the posts...my best bet is either green or orange right???

How close are they to arena/parking? Don't mind a bit of a trek...but don't want to spend the entire time walking!!

And.....Do they fill up quickly??

green fills up pretty quick

err green is really close to the arena, not far at all - it is a bit of a trek to the car, but there is a free boat service which will save you the walk along the canal

Purple ha always had a nice mix of craziness and friendliness, and great if you don't plan on sleeping till its getting light.

If they're extending the arena, what will that mean for the camping space? It seems to widen a little every year, making Green that bit narrower. I don't really see how they can do that anymore (there's a river in the way), so does that mean yellow's getting smaller?
