Taunton To The Festival

Hey folks.

This year we're doing things a bit differently to normal and on the Tuesday night 8 of us are staying at the Travelodge in Taunton. Hoping you good people can answer the following questions. ;)

1) How far is it from Taunton to the site and what time would you recommend leaving there to get to the site for gates opening? (Going by car)

2) What's the best route from Taunton to the site? Is it through Glastonbury town? Would like to be in the East carparks and entering the site through PGC if possible.

3) Anyone know of any decent pubs for food and drink in Taunton, preferably close to the Travelodge?

Thanks in advance. ;)

the fine guide http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/information.aspx?id=86 has the postcodes for the west and east car parks, and google maps http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&sour...617981&z=11 tells me that the best way to get to the east car parks is to avoid glastonbury town, that will lead you to the west car parks.

it also says that it'll take about an hour, but i would double that with the queues to get into the car parks. hope that helps ;)

Don't know where the Travelodge is I'm afraid but I guess it will be close to the M5 Junction 25. They normally have associated pubs/restaurants next door to them so you should be OK for some beers etc.

To get to East Car Parks go from M5 Jct 25 to Ilminster on teh A358. (This nis the main road east out of Taunton). Join the A303 after 10/15 minutes and head East and after another 10/15 minutes you will hit the Podimore roundabout and see your first signpost to the Festival. Head 2nd left for Shepton Mallet and you will be directed into East Car Parks, after about 10 minutes of driving.

Dead easy - will take about 45 minutes in normal traffic - longer from Podimore with Festival traffic I would imagine.

Taunton travelodge is on a retail park near the motorway. I used to work out near there and the pub on the estate, The Hankridge Arms, used to do excellent food of a lunchtime/evening. There's a bus stop just 'round the corner from the Travelodge and it's a 10 minute ride into the town centre where there's a few pubs to choose from. Alternatively, there's the Hollywood Bowl and an Odeon multiplex on the same estate as the Travelodge, also a chinese restaurant or a McChav takeaway.

I haven't been in there before but I'm pretty sure it would have a beer garden. Hankridge (the estate) is fairly big, and there's also a Sainsbury's for last minute provisions, along with the cinema, pizza hut and everything people have mentioned! Taunton town centre is quite a way (definite bus journey) and to be honest it's not the most exciting place anyway (don't want to offend any fellow Tauntonians though)! So you won't be missing out!

And sorry I don't drive so don't know about exact distances or routes, other people's links will be more helpful. I'm getting the bus!

yes there is a beergarden (or there was one last year).

I cant remember how far/long it was to glasto, I was too excited, we couldnt get there quick enough! ;)

I think we gave it an hour to get there - but that was also to stop at sainsburys en route. We did have to queue a bit as we got near the entrance, but I dont think it took too much longer than we thought. I think its about 30 miles - the road was pretty straight from what I remember.

We are staying there again this year - we'll definitely be in the pub/beer garden.

Oh - the food in the pub was really nice too (as was the alcohol!)

Just a wee bump! Just booked our bus from Bristol to Taunton for tomorrow and sorted out our plans to get to the festival from there on Wednesday morning.

To those staying at the Travelodge we'll hopefully bump into you at some point tomorrow evening in the pub. :)
