Disappointed with headliners so far?

He/she was complaining about the line-up being too heavy on the american 'side'. What's americana got to do with it?

it's a discussion forum/thread... if all we did was pm each other it wouldn't be very interesting, would it?

corrected for you :D

ps... maybe the 'racist' accusation was bit otp... but I don't get why music fans would want to see english artists more than american ones. They started most of what we'll be watching or listening to after all

Your probably correct, they are not at the same level but just like the saying 'beauty lies in the eye of the beholder' acts will appeal to their fans and fans tend to come from the generation they were successful. Springsteen and Young appeal to 25+s in general(if not older)because they were at their peak 20 or 30 years ago so by saying 'modern acts aren't on the same level' means jack all to the majority of under 25s, whom a lot of will be alienated by the headliners.

I am correct - they're not at the same level.

The sorts of lower level acts that fit your of-interest-to-under25s criteria will be on the bill anyway. So unless those people are the sorts of moronic snobs who think a festival can only be good if their favourite band is headlining regardless of the status of the other bands on the bill, there's no issue. :D

after a break from Glasto last year i'm really looking forward to getting back there this year. however if all these threads on efests are anything to go by( and simillar threads last year), i'm not so sure if it is going to be as i remember. what is going on? has the glasto crowd been replaced by this moaning, arguing, tedious bunch of negative cretins. my memories of glasto are of a smiley, positive, friendly place full of nice people and good vibes. not this.

I don't include efestivals at all here, or the majority of glasto-goers, just the people who insist on arguing about it day in day out ad f**king nauseum.

Bruce Springsteen

The Rising (2002) - Chart position - #1

Devils and Dust (2005) - Chart position - #1

Magic (2007) - Chart position - #1

Working on a Dream (2009) - Chart position - #1

Four number one albums in seven years, five sold out world tours, a very effective endorsement of the current US president and someone so wanted by Michael and Emily, they put together a dossier and sent it to him in the hope of landing the man.

I was 22 when I bought the Rising, and so were most of my mates.

Theres no room for ageism in music mate, none at all.

P.S. I know you were only expressing others opinion.

i have heard this whole argument so so so many times now, and i not been a member that long, and i am so so sick of reading this stuff over and over and over and over again, does no-one have anything new to talk about? i get the whole, everyone has there own opinion thing and i dont deny that, people can say what they want, its a forum, thats what its for, but is there realy the need to repeat it this much? seriously, its depressing. change the record

It may not be one of the best line-ups,but i though last years far worse and i moaned and moaned about it on here...It was my first Glastonbury, and i now know that while the music is formost, it's not going to spoil me having a good time, look at some of the lesser known bands ect, they can be just as good as the headliners, up to now the only headliner i will definatley be seeing is Neil Young and CSYN, the others so far announced do not interest me at all,but am i down about it...NO I AM NOT...Still time to spring a few announcments yet.

In my opinion, it's the strongest set of headliners the festival has had in a while.

3 world class acts, all much sought after, one of whom is making their first ever UK festival apperance.

For me, age doesn't come into it - it's just refreshing to see different people headling festivals. Of the big UK ones probably only Betsival's headliners other than Glastonbury haven't made me sigh with indifference.

IMO, the only "younger" bands capable of headlining Glastonbury have all done so in recent years.

Muse maybe, but they've played so often everywhere that I think they should be enjoying their well deserved break. Also it's only been 5 years since they last headlined.

In terms of the OP talking about American acts - well known British bands at the moment seem to be absolute shite. But there are some brilliant lesser known British bands and they'll be there on the bill too I'm sure.

I disagree about the headliners. Springsteen is an amazing songwriter and performer (although i think people wrongly place him in the same category as Bryan Adams and Bon Jovi) and Blur are legends. I'm not so much a fan of Neil Young though. It seems to me some people get too much respect for dishing out average music over a long period of time (although i still like a few of his tracks and will probably go to see him).

Neil & Bruce have both proved themselves to be worthy headliners, they both have a big following and are hugely influential to artists that they have preceded.

We might not get the chance to see them perform live again, so let's give them a chance.

You never know .. you might enjoy them! :D

Edit: Typo.

it's just that most young people are lazy, selfish, impatient and spoilt these days. If things don't go exactly the way they want they will bitch and moan and complain that it's not fair. To hell with what anyone else wants, they must have things the way they want it. And they must have it NOW! see also the way they complain about not having the full line up announced yet. They demand to know it and cannot cope with not getting things their own way. I'd hate to be part of that generation. Horrible, horrible individulas.

It's not their fault, it's the crappy society we now live in.

I haven't been properly excited about a Glastonbury headliner for years. Probably not since Radiohead.

But I've never found myself without something great to watch. Many of my best G experiences have been at smaller stages. Gruff Rhys at the Avalon stage!

I dunno mate. Sometimes it gets me down that people can bitch and moan about glastonbury to this extent. If these people are the future of the festival then I fear for it, I really do.

I mean some whopper up there was moaning that there were no bands for the youth, including kasabian on his wish list, then someone pointed out that they are on before Bruce and he STILL wasnt happy, moaning that they should be headlining! You just cant win with some people.

it's worse than that - just look around you. :D

I'm sure someone somewhere is saying that their human rights have been abused because they haven't got the line-up they wanted. :)
