Dairy Field...

After much research I think we've chosen the Dairy Field as the field of choice for our first ever Glasto because of it's location to the stages we want and it's flat and quiet.

But I was just wondering does the name Dairy Field suggest it's usually full of cows and their inevitable shit? :D

do you have to leave room for people to play cricket in Wicket Ground?

do people "produce quicklime by the calcination of limestone" (thanks, wikipedia!) in Lime Kiln Ground?

does Michal Eavis camp in Home Grould or Michael's Mead?

does Suggs camp at Suggs Ground?

It's always interested me how the whole site is so cow pat free when it is a dairy farm for 10 months of the year. I know they kick the cows out a good bit in advance of the festival, but I wouldn't expect their residue to integrate into the grass so quickly. I always imagined Michael Eavis driving about with some kind of Heath Robinson style cow pat picker upper on the back of his tractor. But all your cynicism on the subject has spoilt my illusion and made me realise that grass probably just grows quicker than I thought it did.

IIRC the cows are moved off a month before the festival takes place. At some point all the grass is mown. The combination of the two must remove any evidence of the cow pats?

I was at Glade Festival last year, and there were cow pats all over the place. The prime camping spots under the trees (for shelter from the blistering sun) were cow pat central.

I read once that the grass is cut about 3 days prior to the festival starting, so this would spread the pats making them unseen by festival goers.

So when it rains, Michael is delighted as we churn up the grass and make the land more fertile by digging in the cow pats in a far better way than any machine could!

That's my theory on the matter!

For those of you who don't live in the countryside, once a cowpat has dried it has many uses, including......

- cheap frisbies that you find in Netto/Aldi/Lidl

- traditional flat caps

- giant yorkshire puddings that you find in a Toby carvery/2-for-1 pub

Yes I'm the original poster and I'm not offended at all...... you bastards! :O

I know it my have seemed a daft question to you seasoned campaigners but I just wanted to be sure my military operation planning was fully complete and I hadn't overlooked the small matter of sleeping in a field of shite!

I've got some standards you know. But I'm sure come the Monday morning i will have lost all my self respect, dignity and hopefully my morals!
