Official Confirmation v Self-Confirm

only been following the build up to the festival for a couple of years on here, but this time around it seems that more and more acts are self-confirming prior to any official announcement/s

its a bit liek opening your presents early and it just seems a bit sad.. there's a real dichotomy here though in not wanting to have to wait to find out if your favourite band is playing, and not wanting the line-up trickling out piecemeal

are there any top bands to announce that have kept their confirmation secret?? please paul and phil i hope you have duped us there

surely there must be some clause in the contracts saying that they cant self-confirm early, or are they all flouting that?

a few hopefully positive points to while away 'day56togo'

It certainly used to be the case that Glasto didn't care at all if a band announced themselves.

However, I've just had an email from someone extremely well-connected to a certain band that's playing, who has told me that it's written into that band's contract that they can't (but they have anyway :):D).

Whether or not that's something new I'm not sure - it might be that each stage is doing their own contracts, and I'd not become aware that this particular stage is including that clause; thinking back about 10 years, someone once told me that it was in the contracts of another stage, but then again he might have been bullshitting me for his own particular reasons (I won't go into details but there was a lot of bullshit left this person's mouth). But from other bits and pieces I've heard this year it defo seems that Glasto is keener to keep things - or at least some things - under wraps than has been the case previously.

I think this whole situation is pretty damn exciting. I mean yeah Glasto people themselves have confirmed some acts for us but the rest that people are finding daily makes it so much fun. Its like "right we`r putting on the greatest fest ever, loads of amazing acts are playing, go find em" :)

Then they whack us with the rest, by this point every one of us on here have already burst into a million bits with excitement :D:)

As far as I know, one of the reasons Glastonbury keep the lineup under wraps is to help the band's ticket sales for their tours.

I know that has happened for a couple of bands.

Personally, I can't see what difference it makes, I'm going to Glastonbury either way. If a band I particularly like are there it doesn't mean I won't see them on tour.

I'm the sort of kid that would open his presents before & I'd be happy to know the full lineup earlier. It would take an extraordinarily bad lineup for me not to want to go, or a huge rise in ticket prices (I know which is more likely to happen).

It's like a giant easter egg hunt where we all go off and check our favourite bands website/myspace and rumour lists to look for those suspicious schedule gaps and self announcements! The highs of discovering your favourite band is playing, the lows of seeing your favourite band dropping off the rumour list, it's sheer drama!
