In support of SonofJackass, the only reason I'd even heard his name is because I had the misfortune to be listening to Radio 1 when they played the N-Dubz tune. I promptly turned the radio over.

I'm sure people did know of him before, but not many people. Having now had the misfortune to listen to him, I wish I'd never heard of him.
