Bob Dylan

I saw him a few years ago at Sheffield Arena. His band were pretty good, but his habit of completely ignoring the melodies of his songs is quite infuriating. You can't make out the lyrics either. At one point he was about two minutes into a song and I was thinking, "I'm sure I recognise this one". I was trying to work out if it was an album track off New Morning or something. Turned out it was The Times They Are a-Changin'.

I saw him again at Roskilde two years ago, and went with some friends, who were really looking forward to it. I kept warning them that it might not be quite what they expected, but I don't think they quite believed me until they heard him.

By all accounts though, if you get him on a good night, he's spectacular.

I can't see him playing at Glastonbury this year, as you'd think he'd be a headliner. Bit odd to have Neil Young headlining and Dylan further down the bill.

I went to the o2 and thought it was fantastic. No big screens, no karaoke, no fuss, just Bob and and a really tight band knocking out a great setlist.

Roundhouse the following night was not as good from my personal viewpoint just because of the song choices.

But I'm not for a minute going to say you were wrong because that's your view and Bob has been polarising opinion since he started out.

Don't get me wrong- the man is a living legend, unquestionably the biggest single influence on modern music alive- with 6 or 7 of my all time favourite albums.....but seeing him live is not a good experience

Saw him in Sheffield last month. I thoroughly enjoyed it but I'm a Dylan fan and I know what his voice is like nowdays. It's true that a lot of his songs are re-arranged and that they can be a long way from the original, but then again I expect that. For me it's about being there while a legend performs his songs, instead of hearing them being covered by others. (On that note it was nice to hear him do Make You Feel My Love that night - a lot of people still think that it was written by Adele  ).

I feel a bit sorry for those who turn up expecting to hear the classic stuff done the way they remember it. He doesn't do that much of the old stuff, and what he does is totally different. The guy behind me was shaking his head in disbelief while Blowin' in the Wind was being performed.

So, should he play at Glastonbury? I know I would go to see him but as I said, I'm a fan. I don't think he should though because he would be slated by people expecting to hear the stuff that made him famous and being disappointed. He doesn't deserve that...he is a legend.

If you're curious and go to see him on tour, make sure you go with an open mind.
