Camera Insurance

Can any advise on some decent camera insurance. Got a Nikon D40 with a 18-55 & 55-200 lens and thinking about taking it to glasto, but don't want it trashed. Glasto has already claimed a 4Gb Zen MP3 player off me in 2007, so dont want to loose £300 worth of camera gear.

I do have a compact but want to play about with my DSLR.

If you have personal possession insurance outside of the home, make sure your camera is listed on that; you shouldn't have any problems. Depending on the insurance company they will allow tent thefts, but there is nothing stopping you saying someone took it from your rucksack when you were watching a band.

Last year I took my compact but I had a waterproof housing for it, which was great as it meant it was capable of being dropped and the rain had no effect on it. Be careful with the D40, it doesn't have much weather-proofing so dirt, water etc could easily get inside it and ruin the sensor/lens - especially if you're going to be swapping lenses.

Edit: not to mention the risk of drinks being spilt over it from rocket-launched pint glasses and someone bumping in to you!

I work in insurance , your best bet would be your Home Insurance.

You can buy individual camera insurance , but they tend to have more rigorous conditions , hidden

away.

The only thing I would say is , if it got nicked from your tent , or a lock up they may try to hide behind

"care and attention " clause and also want to see proof you had reported the theft.

Hope this helps !

Cheers for the replys, at the moment i am in the middle of moving properties (was living with rents, moving into rented accomodation) so don't have home contents.

Will look into the camera insurance companies invidually and email them any questions. Could just take my Sony CyberShot but the same issues could occur with pints etc.

I took a Canon 400D DSLR with £2000 worth of lenses last year and a £250 Sony Cybershot pocket camera.

On the first day i decided to do shrooms and opted for taking the Sony digital camera, good job i did too as i actually handed it to someone as a gift! was absolutley gutted when i came around and had realised what i had done as id taken some cracking tripping videos on it!, but a good job i didnt have the DSLR camera on me as it would have ruined my festival!

The 400D has died now, and am waiting on a new 50D to be delivered, along with lenses & tripod theres just under £3000 of camera equipment and will definatley be looking at taking out some kind of insurance this year.

Glastonbury is the ferfect place for DSLR photography, you can get some cracking shots, especially with the Canon 10-22mm wide angle lens!
