Veteran actress June Whitfield has said she may never work for the BBC again because it does not like old people.

The 83-year-old former Terry and June star, who has worked for the corporation for decades, has accused TV bosses of being ageist and obsessed with youth.

She made the criticism amid claims that the UK's longest running sitcom Last of the Summer Wine, in which she stars as Nelly, is to be axed.

The comedy actress, who also starred in Absolutely Fabulous, said this is because broadcasting chiefs at the BBC 'don't like old people' .

Miss Whitfield insists the show, which has been running for 35 years, should be kept because it is popular with older people.

But modern TV chiefs are only interested in airing 'in your face' shows aimed at younger audiences, she said.

As someone said earlier, BBC Radio 6 seem to be big on it. For a month or so recently I was able to listen all day and there would be several Glastonbury references / news stories every day.

And yep, the Radio 1 Dance stage was bloody fab.

I liked the way you could just wander past and immediately see/hear if it was going off. The tents in the Dance Village (brilliant though it is) don't really have that kind of random dive-in factor, unless you've already decided to go to that area.

And yep (again!) almost certainly it was noise regs that killed it. Ah well.
