Best place to pitch

Usually get to glasto about 11am on the wed, so usually have a choice on where to pitch the tent.

Noticed that people usually go for the bushes (paines/Dairy ground). Just wondering why? what the benifit of pitching up there?

The only thing i can think of is you might not get people "wayfinding" or having "desirelines" past your tent kicking out guy ropes as the walk past.

Discuss.

Unfortunately even Glastonbury still has a few selfish, irresponsible and downright disgusting punters who seem to think that a bush is a feeking loo... Try to avoid the bushes I would say.

And whilst we are on the subject... The trees & bushes etc etc are NOT for firewood either.

Rant over. Enjoy the middle of what ever field to decide to live in for five days.

the perfect spot for us last year was about 50 yards from both the toilet and path, we didnt get loads of people marching past and the smell wasnt too bad, plus when you needed the toilet the trek wasnt too bad.

i saw too many tents being trampled on when the paths turned to mud to vow to myself, never ever pitch me tent next to a path ! there could be nothing worse than returning to where you thought your tent was at midnight to find it flattened under a sea of mud and footprints.

Never camp near the paths! In 2005 my friend got there late and had to put his tent up near the path, he got back to it after seeing some bands one day and the entire front of it was under the mud/water. The inside was dry, but it looked pretty grim having to basically climb through a load of mud to get in and out of his tent.

We always arrive just as the gates open so we get a pretty decent choice of where to camp and I always go a few feet away from some bushes but about half way into the field, that way you're just far enough away from any idiot wanting to piss on your tent, you get some cover from the bushes and you don't get many people walking past kicking your tent, being noisy etc.

Lol about the toilets. We were near the "steel box" (as we called it) toilets and not only did they smell but the doors were spring loaded and made a right loud noise as they slammed themselves shut.

Might go for the bush idea they year then, the dairy fields are pretty chilled out and its a good spot for sleep, however one night we awoke with an australian gentleman erecting his tent shouting "whats your favorite berry? glaston bery!" Funniest thing ive ever heard at 4am!

which stage is that in the pic above, JazzWorld?

i don't understand why people camp close to stages/main thoroughfares. These are the main places where people congregate or pass through, so thats where the most damage gets done

as long as it's dry this year (which is definitely will be) then there shouldnt be too much bother

I'm SO excited about glastonbury right now :)

My 2c

Don't camp:

- downhill from any toilets

- too near any bogs (banging doors)

- in any kind of dip or at the bottom of any hills

- near any hedges (some assholes will use them as bogs)

- near any trackways (noisy)

- right in the middle of a huge field (unless you have a flag or some other way of finding your tent)

Do camp

- near where you'll spend most of your time or near where you tend to end up at the end of the night (for me top of Pennards near Stone Circle)

Aye, i was going to say I don't remember there being too much room to camp near Jazzworld :)

I've been in a total quandary about where to camp this year. Not been for 4 years and taking my girlfriend for the first time so I've got her to worry about. Dairy Ground is edging it ATM but i guess much depends on where we park and what gate we come through
