that is awesome. no doubt there is some good stuff coming out of bristol at the moment. its funny how its caught on so much there. i do kind of get the feeling that its a bit cos bristol is quite a trendy city.

from what i hear, bristol is pretty much overrun with dubstep at the mo. in a good way. any thoughts?

if you into that bristol thing...this is worth a watch

i don't know much about the bristol nightlife, but i know that a lot of good bass type music has come from there.... legends like roni size, massive attack rite down to new stuff like shackleton, pinch, joker, perverlist, appleblim etc. Summat in the waters round that city!

Joker

http://www.myspace.com/thejokerproductions

been confirmed for the festival.

AAAARRRGGGGGHHHHHHH ...... ERROR ERROR ERROR CRASH ...... REBOOT. I knew this day would come. :P

eFestivals has a database which now has something like 25,000 performers within it. Until now there's been no issues.

Now we have two bands called "Joker". The other one are these:-

Any ideas to what I should add in brackets after each one so that they're easily distinguishable from each other by any reader?

cheers for the link pal. i'll enjoy that. i just watched something similar but it was from 2006. and dubstep has changed so much since then.

i didn't know that appleblim and roni size were from bristol. that is pretty big. roni is the best drum and bass dj i've ever seen (can't wait to see andy c, whenever that might be).

i completely forgot that massive attack were from bristol. they have quite a pedigree in electronic music there. it really is insane how many good producers are coming out of there.

i'm in manchester and although there are a lot of good nights on i rarely hear a good manchester dubstep producer. i think chimpo is from near me and theres a couple of good dj's. rich reason and prime are very worth checking out. to be honest, rich reason is insanely good.

its just good to see a scene doing so well. i think dubstep gets a lot of shit because it is "obsessed with itself". in my opinion this can be a problem when theres kids out there who've heard one benga song and take ket. then they can say "oh i like dubstep" to their mates, to be cool. lets face it, its a pretty trendy scene for the mostpart.

however, what i think people miss about dubstep is that it is a scene that really brings people together. a lot of the people who've been into it since it was a small thing just love it cos theres a real sense of an underground community to it. then add to that that basically everyone at your average dubstep night is a bit of a soundhead and has at least tried to make their own tunes. i think its hardly surprising that people love it so much. its just a great interest to bond over. and everyone seems to have an interest in pushing the scene fro strength to stength because of that.

i'm just meandering here. what do toher people think about this? i'd really like to know.

Hessle are beginning to do really well for themselves hey? They're hosting Room 3 at Fabric on Friday and quite a few of those artists have made it into southern DJs mixes, Ramadanman was on the last Dubstep Allstars and stuff. The more techno-y end of Dubstep is the first UK electronic scene I've got excited about in ages! Although with 2562 and Martyn the dutch are beginning to show us how it's done better already haha.. just like football

interesting. i always saw the bristol scene as being the slightly more organic stuff. pinch and appleblim aren't really technoey. i guess the live sets step it up a notch or two.

i don't mind it being a 12" kind of scene. albums are good, but half the fun of dubstep is going out there and trying to find original sounding new tunes for yourself. to be fair, there are a couple of great albums out there. but i find with a genre a diverse as dubstep (or DnB) if an artist tries to put together a collection of fitting songs then it can just end up sounding samey, or sending tracks to vinyl that fit well between two other tracks, but in their own right, aren't really the strongest tracks.

i guess it depends what your into, but i kind of like having to work for my tracks. unless the producer is a genius. take skream for example. one of my favourite albums ever. but a good collection of matching dubstep/dubby tracks.

i think dubstep has had benfit of getting popular at a time in which 'the album' is not as important as the single tune (thats not only in underground music circles either). i guess things such as posting up live sets on message boards is pretty important to spread the music. which is a good thing to me as hearing a great dj/live set is just as good as listening to a brilliant artist album! i love hearing developments in sounds over a period of time, and hearing where the artist/dj takes you.

theres plenty of good stuff out there. it really depends on what you're into.

i think the related videos thing on youtube is always pretty good.

hey-o-hansen are even pretty much pushing it to be called dub. so good tho.

if you're into the more dubby stuff then you'd probably like zomby, the widdler, stenchman. in my opinion you can;t beat a bit of reso or substep infrabass now and again. but thats a bit heavier.

i'm assuming you know the bigger artists but a lot of people like rusko/skream/burial/benga. i wouldn't be surprised if you did either.

welcome to the dark side

i'm not feeling the purple dubstep. its a bit too poppy for me. the mid freqeuncies are wrong somehow.

animal collective are the perfect example of a cross over artist. they mix their entire gigs when they play live. that is something i really respect and its not done enough.

to be honest they're my favourite artist of all time.
