i'm not feeling the purple dubstep. its a bit too poppy for me. the mid freqeuncies are wrong somehow.

animal collective are the perfect example of a cross over artist. they mix their entire gigs when they play live. that is something i really respect and its not done enough.

to be honest they're my favourite artist of all time.

probably wouldn't notice them. am i right in saying that when glasto is on it is the biggest gathering of people within about 200 miles? or something like that. more people than bristol.

but seriously. i wouldn't be surprised to see the bristol dubstep scene taking over the glade for a day. or half a day.

going by why dubstep is so LARGE in Bristol.

I wouldn't say it's a 'trendy' city - there's always been a massive love for the grimey sounds down here - the darker sides of dubstep/ dnb/ trip hop etc people enjoy it massively

Bristol's always been big on reggae/ heavy dub anyway, and combined with it's roots in experimental electronic explorations such as massive/ portishead/ general trip hoppiness and with jungle/ dnb ever present - dubstep was the natural progression. There are some ridiculously heavy nights during the week, and even more on the weekend! Mary Anne Hobbs loves this city and is playing here end of the month - she was only here last month too.

Take last night for example, for a fiver at the croft was Pinch, Martyn, followed by an impromptu Joker set to finish it off. and that's mid week..

this weekend showcases a terrifyingly good combination of nights on the fri/ sat (have listed those who're fans of jungle/ dnb/ dubstep etc:

check out:

http://www.headfirstmusic.co.uk/

friday -

- experimental dub/ jungle night at the croft

- ed rush/ optical/ randall/ hazard/ kenny ken/ loxy dnb night at the motion skate park with dubstep in the 2nd room

- fabio & grooverider at dojo's

- phace (evilly dark dnb producer from germany) at timbuk 2

- old skool jungle/ dnb with 2 bad mice, darren jay and more at lakota

and that's not forgetting other events such as hotchip! at thekla, or your bleepy minimalistic shizzle at the warehouse

and on saturday:

- Remarc/ Dr S Gachet/ Komonazmuk at the Croft

- Rob Da Bank/ DJ Yoda at Academy

- Ghislain Poirier/ rsd/ l.d./ lv - dubstep/ bashment night at the black swan (where i seem to go every saturday night just for the massive bonfire in the garden :P)

I f**king love this city, and that listed are just for dnb/ dub etc. There's always experimental bands playing, other venues such as the arc bar (i think its called lab now) native etc showcase experimental glitchy electronica nights

would write tonnes and tonnes on here about the insanely huge underground music scene including all the sick ass free parties in the woods, they tend to be psytrance but who gives a f**k as long as there're happy people and fires to sit around!!

We have a vegan fayre coming soon headlined by Zion Train and Horace Andy of all people. good times :P
