I'm getting twinges all through the day as I do various things... Hard to isolate..

If I hold my arm out from my side, and move it backwards... I experience the most reliable pain as it reaches the end of its journey there...

Also, lifting things with a straight arm provokes pain.

I was thinking maybe I've pulled a lat deltoid, but I'm no physician..

What do you think, Doc?

It sounds like you have either a slight tear to supraspinatus, or it is inflamed. Supraspinatus is part of the group of muscles collectively called the rotator cuff. Its basically a group of muscles that provides stability to the shoulder. Best thing you can do is ice your shoulder. Do you have restricted range of motion at the shoulder joint as well?

I had a septoplasty - straightening of the septum (for medical, not cosmetic reasons!) a while back. Supposed to be a simple day op. No, it wasn't. Got an infection on day of the op and then had to be transfered to different hospital because where i was couldnt cater for it etc etc etc . Was put on anti biotics and stuff and have since been told it has heeled okay.

But, I still can't seem to shake off this stupid infection, I don't feel hugely unwell, just I'm exhausted constantly and get confused a bit more than normal!.

Had the same sort of thing after a hospital stay years ago after an infection and it took me literally about 18 months to feel anywhere near back to normal. I don't appear to recover from infection at all well.

So....Massively looking forward to my first glasto, but I can see me getting ridiculously tired after the first couple of days. I suppose that'a what power naps are for .

Rant over

I've currently got Labyrinthitis and keep faaling over in a slightly comical way. Put me right off rock climbing I can tell you.

"Labyrinthitis is an inner ear infection that causes a delicate structure deep inside your ear, called the labyrinth, to become inflamed.

The labyrinth is a maze of fluid-filled channels that control your hearing and balance. There is one inside each ear, in the bone at the base of your skull.

When your labyrinth becomes inflamed, the information it sends to your brain will be different from the information sent from your unaffected ear and from your eyes. This difference can make you feel dizzy, or you may feel that you are moving when you are still (vertigo).

If the hearing part of the labyrinth is inflamed, then your hearing can be affected."

i've been off work for 2 and 1/2 months, collapsed when at work (lucky for me i'm a nurse so had lots of attention from the staff), been under investigations for pheaochromocytoma which is benign tumors on the adrenal gland, although now they want me to go for a scope as i've been sick everyday for 8 weeks, and i have to go for a MRI scan, good thing is that they no longer think its the pheao, only now we dont know what is making me collapse all the time! but despite the worries i keep in touch with my manager, and now we have to book holiday off over the internet which meant i had to go into work and book my holiday whilst off on the sick......NOTHING IS STOPPING ME GOING, not even the shame of telling my manager why i needed the holiday!

Well, that would account for why I don't seem to be able to "isolate" the source of the pain to one particular deltoid..

I appear to have a full range of movement, but at the extremities, or when "rotating" the arm, I do suffer from sharp pain. Do you still recommend ice and time?

I should ask, by the way, what your experience is in this field (I'm guessing physio), and also apologise for turning into some kind of virtual patient. I hope this doesn't open the floodgates...

I'm a personal trainer. Deal with lots of injuries, in particular back and shoulder (have dislocated both shoulders myself at some point too so unfortunately have first hand experience of shoulder problems!!!)

Yeah i'd still recommend lots of rest and ice and certainly no heavy loading/lifting. When the pain starts to subside its what you do from there that will determine any future bouts of pain.

A period of prehab will strengthen the rotator cuff and hopefully stop you from getting this sort of pain again.

I thought so too. I'm such a classy lady.

I can't be bothered fannying around with stuff like that. I'm more bothered about the bloating and having to change tampons in longdrops/portaloos.

Sorry if people don't like hearing stuff like that, but i'm getting a bit worried about having to do it, can't be good for my foo-foo if I get some dodgy bacteria up there too......

Just before last years festival i did some serious damage to the tendons in my foot. At the time local hospital prescribed ligament damage,so i got some sticks and just hobbled as far as the Jazz field, and in particular Brother Bar on the Wednesday.

After 4 pints of purely medicinal Pear Cider, i ditched the crutches, and opted ffor using the Brothers pain relief for the remainder of the festival.

However in the coming months in became apparent that something was massively wrong, and i ended up having a 3.5 hour op in December which involved pulling the peroneal tendon out of my foot, fixing that,, and the tunnel it sits in, then breaking and straightening my ankle to keep everything in line.

To cut along story short, was advised 12 months before i walked properly..............6 months on im getting there slowly, ankle is working and pain free, but still very very stiff as ligaments etc are still very weak / learning how to work properly again. It should be ok, but i have to be very careful not to twist it at the moment so have to walk pretty slowly.

So if u see an old git, lying down halfway up the hill of death, on the way back to a camper van, please feel free to stand him up and give him a push !

I have a trapped nerve or something in my left hip that's making it very hard to do anything at the moment. But I've got six weeks to get rid of the damned thing (the ailment, not the leg). Here's hoping I'm not a complete cripple come Glastonbury!

As of last night i have shoulder pain. Was in a club and I got overcharged manager and a couple of bouncers came over one pinned me to the ground and tried to put my arm behind my back without following the natural movement of the arm doesn't help that it was the same shoulder that got dislocated a few years back.

If the pain continues i will be making a point of complaining to the owners about the lack of training the particular bouncer seemed to have.

The last couple of weeks my ankle and foot have been hurting, and this last week its got worse, Im hobbling around, taking painkillers which arent really working. went to the docs on wed, who said there is no swelling, so he didnt know what it was and to just rest it.

In absolute agony, personally I reckon its damaged ligaments which I hope clears up soon as it hurts even to walk about at the moment. God knows what I'm doing at work! ;)

Wow, what a list of ailments!

Ive just gotten back from my first visit at physio and have been referred to hospital for more intensive help. Apparently I have nerve tension... (possibly sciatic nerve tension, specifically). Hips become really sore and legs go numb. Calf muscles always tense. Was in quite some discomfort during a small ten minute walk up a hill yesterday...so I really hope this is sorted before I take on Pennards! Otherwise will have to source some decent pain medication or take the monorail ;) .

Hope everyone starts feeling better soon! Positive thoughts and all that.
