BBC Coverage

So will the BBC get off their collective arse and provide some decent coverage this time round, reflecting and communicating the spirit of Glastonbury?

I have a horrible feeling they will revert to type and provide the same tosh as last year,

  • 'Exclusive' backstage performances that nobody who actually went to Glastonbury would have seen,

  • 'Des Lynham at Wimbledon' style anchoring from some glass box overlooking a backstage area of trucks

  • Jo f**kin smug chops Wiley interviewing Scouting For Girls

It's clear the BBC give the producers a huge budget, why don't they do something more creative with this money that truly reflects that 'lost weekend' experience Glastonbury is.

Doesn't really matter if your there. When i have seen it, agreed it's quite poor. Funny having my mum ringing me up saying "didn't see you in the crowd for Amy Winehouse" (wonder why  ). First thing they should do, get rid off that spanner Zane Lowe!

Yeah, and what the f**k do you know!? You're just a stupid prick from a cheap laugh, slapstick, sham of a tv program. Look mate, i know the BBC ditched you and it was hard. Especially for Paul, his crystal meth addiction is very well documented. But get over it, yeah? Cheap swipes at the BBC ain't going to help Paul out of that rut.

I think they do the whole 'spirit' thing quite well. (just for the record the glastonbury spirit is retarded, its just people in a field at the end of the day and loads of rich city types being 'chilled' if you fall for it that's great' )

Its just boring to watch, they need,

- more wide camera shots on the live acts

- more interviews with people there

- less back stage shows

- more of the little acts that aren't 'bbc introducing' put a camera on, say to roots stage, and then everything that's on it show on tv. Somehow they always miss my favourite act.

- Less Interviews with pyramid or other stage acts. I want people who I don't normally hear about saying stuff. British Sea Power for example, great glastonbury band, must have some good stuff to say - Interview those guys not

- A bit more of ME driving round or chatting to people is never a bad thing.

- edit lilly allen out of the entire festival,

Yeah, they should get Mark back doing it, 1995's coverage on C4 was what got me into Glasto in the first place, and was awesome. They were off over the greenfields the whole time, even the tracking shots during bands were from there, the co-presenter (forget her name) was clearly stoned a fair bit, and the whole thing captured the real festival. Remember seeing the Rinky Dink getting a good 5 minutes of interview in a serious yet jovial way at one point.

The BBC coverage though seems to be designed to make out that glastonbury is just another festival where you go to see big name bands. I do wonder if it in part is responsible for the change in the people going there nowadays, and their focus on who's playing rather than on the parts of the festival that make it different from all the others.

Zane Low is unspeakably, insufferably bad. Bring back the Jools Holland backstage performance area!

The coverage is bad, I think we can all agree.

But do we think its better than nothing at all - how suitable is a massive sprawling epic events like Glasto for mass broadcasting anyway? It'll always be a bit poo, because, unlike us, the viewers at home are unable to dive into the Croissant Neuf at a moment's notice.
