As a "journo" myself...... (and a type 1 by this threads definition) its a sad fact that every "outlet" (can't really use the phrase papers anymore) is there to do pretty much one thing - sell advertising space.

If an editor has circulation figures in the 10 thousand mark he can only sell his advertising space for 10% of a.n other editor that is in the 100 thousand mark. Add to that that outlets aim at a demographic and the whole thing turns on its head, with ironically the readers expecting the tone of the articles, and therefor the editor "guiding" the reporter to use the "house style" which is tantamount to saying "we need to suck-up to the readership"

now I am in no way excusing opinion coloums that dress themselves up as "hard fact reporting" which is what we apear to have here, but I'm not entirly sure given the subtle clues that the "writer" had a lot of choice in what was put out

after all if I write a 1000 words and the editor decides it not what he want's - he edits it... and still sticks my name at the credit.

I'm an ex journo but I'm not even going to bother to get heavily into the type 1 v type 2 except to say that people get the papers they deserve. Papers are businesses like any other and try to make a profit. No sales no profit. If The Sun or the Daily Mail are successful it's because people buy them. So don't exclusively blame the journos - the readers have to accept some responsibility.

All that said, the more the media slags off Glasto the better as far as I'm concerned as it will give people who want to go a better chance of getting a ticket.
