Banners in Signatures

I used to have a simple graphic, small and discreet in my signature.

It wasn't a click able link advertising something else away from this site. It didn't cost any bandwidth to efestivals, only a negligible amount to the end user.

I see sigs as part of one's identity, and I can understand why some bloated over sized ones are removed.

Whoever deleted mine can they explain why and also why others are allowed sigs clearly advertising other sites?

Uppermost though, please don't be offended at this enquiry, I'll accept any explanation, I just wanted to know why ?

banners of all kinds are not permitted in sigs - these have been the rules here since the year dot and won't be changed. Likewise, other large pics are not permitted, nor huge text sigs, nor commerical links. Any that are seen are either removed or the person contacted for them to remove (it depends on what's in the sig as to which method is used)

This is because the boards here are about what people are saying, nowt else. I'm sure that many people have encountered other boards where the sigs are huge are take up far more space to be got past then what is posted, making use of those boards unwieldy and unpleasant.

At points, these boards have had an extra bit in place that limits the size of a users sig and what can be placed within it; unfortunately this has currently stopped working (somewhen I'll get round to fixing it), but the principle still applies.

re: your current sig, which says:-

"A banner is a 'clickable' advertising graphic, mine was just a low bandwidth graphic, will you put it back please?"

That's not correct - a banner is a graphic in the shape of a banner, nowt else.

The issue is with the space these things take, making any thread full of clutter rather than what people are saying in their posts .... what interests people and why they come to these forums is what people are saying, and not how many gigs the poster has been to or the thousand other things people might over-fill their sig with.
