Will Glastonbury be as good second time around?

I'm going for my second helping of Glasto, the first time last year was mindblowing as the only other fests I've been to were V 2002, 07, 08 and a couple of day ones.

There was so much to do that I didn't see all of it and on the last day, I knew that I would be back and I have a feeling that it will be even better!! (touch wood etc...)

Oh and just so you know, when I went to V2008, it seemed so small, commercial and insignificant compared to my experience at Glastonbury (not to take away the amazing performance of Muse, well worth seeing them).

I've been spoiled!! lol

Whist you can never repeat the first time seeing the scale of it... on the second time, because you know how much stuff there is, you're more likely to explore more and seek out stuff that you now know is "out there". Maybe! :)

I only did my first Glasto in 2005 after a fair few years of other festivals but from the moment i arrived onsite i just knew that it was something special, we spent the whole of the wednesday just wandering round the site in awe of the sheer size of the place.

The second time was much more relaxed (even with the shitty weather) but i reckon it'll take me another 4 or 5 years before i can even begin to think that i've found everything.

It's much better the second time and continues to get better each time.

The first time you're blown away by the scale and the variety as there's so much to take in.

The second time you've got a mental list of the things and places you've got to go and see again or which you missed the first time -but you are better at pacing yourself.

The third time there will be things you know you needn't bother with to allow even more time for the unusual.

The fourth time you'll come across even more things and ask yourself how you managed to miss them before.

By the fifth time you'll be wishing the festival lasted a forthnight to allow yourself to fit everything in.

And, somewhere between all of that you might find time for a bit of music.

By visit six there will be lots more new things and so the cycle goes round.

Its never the same as your first. But that doesnt mean its not as exciting or fun.

Its always magical.

Its always different.

You love each and everyone for different things and even if you did EXACTLY the same thing - which is impossible- it would still be totally different.

Its unique each and every time. ;)

The more times you go, the better it gets.

I've been pootling off on my own a little bit more each time... you always find something new.. you always find something interesting.. you always find a nutter to talk to.. or you become that nutter yourself.

It becomes less of the shiny new wondrous thing to behold, and somewhat more of a comfortable pot-pourri of nostalgia that still has the ability to surprise.

You never lose that Glastonbury feeling....

....and as I've just proved, it's really hard to describe without sounding like an ageing hippy. ;)

This'll be my fourth and yeah, there are lost of factors that can make one better than another. Like a lot of folk have said, the first time you go, the scale of it is amazing. Before Glastonbury, I'd been to T in the Park, Reading and Isle of Wight and Glastonbury feels about as big as all of them combined.

I've also had different experiences because sometimes it's just been me and my girlfriend and other times there has been a big group of us. Overall, I think it's probably more fun being in a big group but it's much different when there are only two of you. Good in a lot of ways too.

One good thing about going after having been a few times is that you learn where your favourite stages/food stalls/places are. And you seem to always find things you haven't found before. Like last year I found (probably well known to a lot of you) a wee tunnel with nice lighting where I sat and had a smoke for a while (maybe taking me back to being a 15yr old tearaway hanging about in a tunnel) and I really liked it.

One thing I'll really miss this year though is the Jazz Lounge. ;)

Oh, also, I (somehow) didn't even have a brothers on my first visit! :)

edit - The line up also definitely has an impact and I think this years lineup is shaping up to be multiple times better than last years.

My Second Glasto (2008) was a far superior experience to my first (2007).

In 2007 the scale of the thing really hit me as I had only been to V, IOW and Reading beforehand. I was rushing round in the mud like an idiot trying to catch one band after the other (as you'd do at Reading or similar) and not really taking in all the festival had to offer.

Last year we went with no set plan, the sun shined and just wandered around doing things at our own pace. This led to us having many new 'experineces' and seeing lots of things we would never usually watch. We still saw the 2 or 3 acts we really wanted to see, but as we went with no set plan it led to a far more enjoyable festival then the first.

I'm sure my 3rd this year will be even better!

This will be my 16th Glastonbury and every one of those has been great. I can’t say which one was the best because they all seem to be the best. Even when it’s been raining none stop.

Every year i go i seem to experience some new which i love, but also i love going to all the little places i go every year like my favourite places to eat.

i agree that the first year you're just in awe of the scale of the place, but it still amazes me every time. it just seems to get bigger but i think its just me getting more adventurous and discovering new bits every time. makes other festivals seem puny in compatison!

roll on glasto number 4! B)
